Clearly doesn't know how to use google or has a mobile phone... or a working car for that matter so she can drive to the store and buy a copy of windows.
I suspect her kernel was out of date and her wlan card wasn't interfacing with the OS properly. Or she just didn't know how to connect to her access point.
Seen this three times and still funny, it's also kinda disturbing how the news took this so seriously . What was that girl even thinking, " oh, my laptop doesn't have windows and I can't use this Ubuntu stuff, let's call the local news instead of aslinh someone for help "
It does worry me that there are people like this out there. I do have trouble accepting that people have different skill sets and intellect. All she needed to do was ask for help??? Lest us not forget that also EVERYONE can vote!
Some people are not supposed to have access to the internet... People have different skill sets but that is just plain stupidity at its best. The older ones arround will remember the survival of the fitest thing we had going on.
Maybe she got it on the news because some one at Microsoft payed the news station to do coverage on the story to improve the success in Windows.
But for real, how do you buy a computer with a different OS that you probably never heard of and expect everything to work out of the box and be compatible with your uni.
There are people out there that are dumber than rocks when it comes to tech, unless it's a phone that allows them to schmooze it up on facebook. Had to deal with some like that at my old work.
My guess is she had never heard of anything other than Windows and Mac. So to her the possibility of not Windows didn't even seem like a thing that could happen. But that is staggering levels of "out to lunch" to not at least check before purchasing.
This is outrageous! The Girl should take class action lawsuit against Cannonical and Dell. After all those companies are responsible for her losing a place at College. Everybody should be able to install the interwebs from a CD.
