Ubuntu + Adobe

Hello Eveyone!

I've been really looking into using Linux as my primary operating system for a while now, but the inability to use the Adobe Suit has prevented me from making the switch. I know I can run Windows games in WINE or something, but I haven't seen anything about Adobe + Linux other than "We want this please!"

I primarily use Premiere Pro, Audition, Photoshop, Lightroom, and After Effects. I have a legitimate subscription to the CC, so I'm not sure how/if running these programs in Linux is viable right now?

If I made the full time switch to Linux, I'd be using Ubuntu in all likely hood.

Thanks in advance for any help and support given!

If you are using it for work stuff i would just run it natively on windows. You can run it on a VM in ubuntu, but premiere and aftereffects will run horribly on any decent size project.

From what I've seen everyone recommends running a VM as well, I guess I was hoping for another option haha. Thanks for the advice though.

If you have onboard graphics you could run a Windows VM and 'passthrough' your GPU to the virtual machine thus improving graphics performance.

I would check alternatives and PlayonLinux. PlayonLinux (which is a Wine wrapper) does support Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 5. ( https://www.playonlinux.com/en/supported_apps-6-0.html )

Then there are alternative software you could use.

Illustrator->Inkscape
Photoshop->Gimp
Lightroom->Darktable
Premier->Lightworks
After Effects->Blender
Audition->Audacity

Most can be used quite effectively in professional level, but of course switching tools takes some time to get used to.

If the alternatives do not cover your needs I would dual boot.

I find Lightworks extremely weird compared to the Premier or even Sony Vegas. Are there any other good alternatives? :D

Thanks but I'm not interested in alternatives. I was only asking for ways to run the programs natively in Linux, but since my best option is still to just run them in Windows I guess I'll just stick with windows.

I'm not interested in learning another full set of programs when I've been paying for another and spending excess time getting to know them well. I will check out PlayonLinux though, thank you.
