Ubuntu 24.04 is extremely shitty

It’s an old sandy bridge machine I repurposed as a cheapo nas. You can see the other thread I posted in this forum, trying to solve the issue, before deciding being left with no choice but to just reinstall completely: Ubuntu upgrade bricked OS: initramfs unpacking failed invalid magic at start of compressed archive

@noenken @SgtAwesomesauce It’s a mouse with many programmable buttons, for which there is no software support on linux. In fact support for windows has also sort of ended, by way of enshittification. I run an old version of logitech’s software, because their new software is the mount olympus of absolute crap shit fuck bitch ass donkey poo.

@PhaseLockedLoop Application profiles? :thinking:
Last time I tried, I think piper was the control software the internet was recommending and that didn’t even work for static assignment.

Ubuntu’s works out of the box, and mint’s works if you comment out the erroring line in the sources file (apt edit-sources).

I’ve begun setting up Mint 21.3 now. It’s lighter on ram than ubuntu, even with cinnamon, and has cool features like the package installer, easy way to update the kernel, and pretty cool customization of the taskbar.
Some software packages are pretty behind, but I was able to update htop. Tho nano and tmux fail because of deps that cannot be satisfied (probably fixable, but eh, whatever, only htop had a relevant new feature in the new version).
