I'm trying to get it so that multi channel PCM, DTS-MA, and TrueHD audio formats can be sent to my audio system while using Kodi. This worked fine within Windows 10, but I don't want to use Windows 10 for obvious reasons.
I am able to get Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Digital Plus to bitstream to my receiver just fine, specifically after running Kodi using ALSA instead of PulseAudio (which doesn't support the HD audio formats anyway). The problem, is if I set Kodi to bitstream the audio, my receiver indicates that it is receiver a 2.0 PCM signal and I get nothing but static through the speakers. Also, if I play a video that uses a different multichannel audio format (one that cannot be bitstreamed to my receiver) such as AAC 5.1, Kodi is supposed to send this as a 5.1 PCM signal, again it is sent as a 2.0 PCM signal.
As a temporary fix, I have set Kodi to transcode DTS-MA, TrueHD, and other multichannel formats to Dolby Digital Plus. This is at least a work around, but was hoping I could find a way to get this to work.

I'm still a little new to Linux, so if there's anything additional that's needed, let me know and I'll do what I can to provide it. My guess is that it's likely something with drivers, though I'm not sure what ones to use and most information I've found about this problem deals with dedicated graphics (and the posts are from around 2013).
