SO recently Far Cry 4 was just released a few days ago. and like all gaming companies, They HATE pirates, they hate them so much they are willing to fart in their general direction. And what did they do you ask?
Day 0 copies of Far Cry 4 have been uploaded to the Pirate-Bay. of course Like all Day 0 / Day 1 copies there are issues. so Day 0 copies have a Field-of-View issue which is impossible to adjust because pirated copies HAVE no field-of-view Option in the graphical settings. Which Ubisoft has released a patch for IMMEDIATELY, for people who purchased the game but for pirates? Ubisoft is pointing and laughing at pirates humiliation. because cracked / pirated versions of the game aren't getting patched and as a result They have an almost unplayable copy of Far Cry 4. PC Gamers again assumed that Ubisoft just didn't care for the PC community but NOPE. not until Ubisoft's Game Director Alex Hutchinson posted this to twitter.
I Salute Ubisoft for this High Level of Trolling. Round of Applause for Ubisoft.
lol I do enjoy stuff like this. EA did it with the new Sims game too. Game Dev Tycoon did as well. I was planning on getting Far Cry 4 for christmas on my PC anyway, so I didn't pirate it.
I actually disagree. Every person I know who pirates games will go back and buy them later, myself included. Unless, of course, its a game I don't like, usually. I bought Kingdoms Of Amalur after pirating it, and still couldn't make myself complete it, even though I desperately wanted to like it.
People who pirate not to pay for games are usually those who don't have enough money to pay for them anyway. Prices of games may not be a big deal for US middle class, but for many people around the world they are.
You don't need a 'gaming PC' to play games. Take pretty much any modern PC, plug something like R7 260 into it and you can play AAA games. R7 260 costs something like 100 euros, most people can afford that once a couple of years, but not everyone can afford something like 150 euros per month (2 AAA games + some indies) to actually buy games to play.
I think it's a silly idea. People who don't realize what's going on will just say 'Well this is just another shitty Ubisoft port, sure glad I didn't pay for it'.
If Ubisoft spent more time making sure they didn't release broken games and less time trolling pirates they would probably lose less customers to piracy.
Let me preface this by saying I do not condone Piracy. That being said, there should have also been a tweet that read something like this:
"PC players! If your complaining that you can't log into UPlay to play our games, you actually payed for this crap!"
Seriously though, the FOV bug will probably be fixed within the week. This bug also affects people who legitimately purchased the game but didn't automatically patch it. I don't mind when devs try to deter piracy, but I don't think that tweet will do ubisoft's image any favors since they have already pretty much accused all PC gamers of being pirates. It seems to me like they are just trying to point to piracy as a reason for their games being so buggy on PC to discredit all the complaints they have received from the PC community in recent years.
Just because a game is garbage doesn't make it OK to pirate it, but I don't think PC gamers should pay for the unfinished products Ubisoft have been releasing lately. We should simply not play their games. That would send a stronger message than pirating them because it shows their games are so awful that it isn't even worth the disk space on our machines.
