Ubiquiti Networks UniFi AP

Hey guys, I recently bought a Ubiquiti UAP to upgrade my house's wifi, but I only bought 1. Is that limiting the use? because I know one main feature is the ability for to create a mesh network. Should I get 2? Or is it possible to combine the old router with the AP?

this is the exact one I bought.

If you can't relocate the AP and you have significant dark areas in the house, adding a similar Unifi AP would be job-wise the easiest solution.

Linking the AP with another (only the 2.4GHz (green) models support it) is a Unifi feature and would not work with your router. Note that linked AP:s might bottleneck the bandwith since they will need to communicate with each other as well as the clients, but this shouldn't be an issue in basic home use.

Ohh what is it called when you put the same SSID and password. Only changing the channel? Is that a simillar experience?

Yeah you can create a mesh network using your unifi ap & the ap on your router just as you described. Sorry I misunderstood your question at first, I thought you wanted to connect two ap's with each other wirelessly. (That way you could place the second ap somewhere else for better coverage, without having ethernet cables running trough the house)

I actually picked one of these up semi-recently and it completely clobbers the performance of the Arris PoS that Comcast gives out (read: sells).

Honestly, whether you need another is totally up to you, they're kind of expensive so unless you have a large home I bet one unit would be adequate. I live in an apartment with tons of other WiFi signals and it works flawlessly.

Another option would be to pick up the Long Range version of the same AP you bought.
