TV-sized monitors?

Last episode of the news mentioned using a monitor instead of a TV to save money/avoid tracking etc. I like the idea, but most monitors are under 32' or so. There are some that are TV-sized, but I'm struggling to find reviews or lists. Does anyone have their finger on the pulse of the huge-korean-monitor market? Specific recommendations or general tips both appreciated.

That is the largest I could find via a quick Google search. Also out there is a 38 inch 21:9 LG monitor.

I am sure there has to be some sort of specialist monitor out there that is big. Like a medical display or something.

Edit: if you look up commercial monitor, you can find some that are up to 50 inches. I have not looked at the specs tho. These are the monitors that are used at stores and stuff to show of their wares, they are also used in offices and the like. They are really expensive.

Should do a search on the forums, there are hundreds of threads asking this

Dream_seller tends to be the seller of choice on ebay, @wendell really like them and I have had good customer service from them. However I did not get a monitor from them

From here some older ones but

From the youtube (this link is a play list)

To make it easier, for a starting point as I think this one is the more popular brands, should take a look at this vid

and here is the ebay link, that is found in the videos description

I'm pretty sure you're looking for displays. They're basically tvs with minimal borders no logos. The kind you see in airports mounted and groups together. No clue where to buy them though I looked into them a long rime ago.

displays = monitors, and would equal a tv too if tvs now didnt have so much extra crap on them like wifi and what not

unless you want like... the screen it self... for what ever reason, cuz you'd still need a main board which then would just be a monitor anyway

see post above your post for a video about a Korean 4k monitor and where to buy, and above that some links to topics/where to buy some more

if you want just a screen....

uhhh idk I have seen some on ebay but forget how to search for it, tbh you could just buy what ever then make a new housing and put the guys in it if the bezel is to much. Most of the Korean monitors are pretty thin

Believe you want something like this?

I believe @_hill is talking about digital signage hardware. Yes, they are "dumb" displays, but are typically purpose-built and lacking extensive IO and front-mounted navigation controls.

You could go ahead and buy a TV and just not network it.

Edit: Yep, the thing linked above. That'd be it.

yes... Monitors like I said lol

meh, if its a good deal

but most of the 4k Korean jobs are as cheap as the tvs without all the extra bs, same panels in them just not the name brand

Yes thats what theyre called couldn't remember.

Although I'm pretty sure the dimensions are a whole lot thicker than normal tv's.

I have decided to go with TVs. The risk and/ or hassle to me is not worth it for no savings. I can get TVs cheaper. A lot more TVs now support 4x4x4 chroma at 60Hz. Also you can turn off most things and most have gaming/PC mode.

I am about 2 months away from settling on hardware for a complete new build (because Amazon canceled my 4x 980 Ti order so waiting on 1080 Ti) but the TVs I am looking at are Vizio M50-D1. The P series is better but negligible for price increase.

The 49" MicroBoard is $200 more for me, so no thanks.

While the 4k monitors are nice you can pick up less expensive versions of the korean monitors that don't have the smart tv nonsense
this one is an ips though be warned the speakers are trash and some other audio device should be used, I have a cheap sound bar.

there are other models for less if just search around on ebay, even amazon has a few but they are still coming from korea. I am Enjoying my UHD400 currently

What size are you looking for?

@Skelterz

That is a nice find. I would make sure it is 4x4x4 chroma at 60Hz, which is hinted but not clearly specified.

Also no display port.

IPS panels tend to have more input lag.

@MrFigs what are you using the panel for?

that is the cheaper tv model, I think @MrFigs intends to use it as a dumb tv since most manufacturers are pulling shenanigans with their smart tv stuff.

That is why I recommended that model, the listing does say it is indeed 4:4:4 and 60hz.

But Still waiting on @MrFigs to specify what he is looking for.

I just use an LG 50 inch 4k TV as a monitor. Even though it's a "Smart TV", I just never connect the damn thing to the wifi. Problem solved.

Probably only using the TV for video; I have a PC for games. The people I'm rooming with might want to hook up a console, but I don't think they care about input lag much (read: at all). If these monitors were super well-documented, I'd look for something with good picture quality, lag be damned, but there's not usually much besides the advertising for each monitor to go by (hence why I'm bugging you guys).

I don't know exactly what size is best since I haven't moved in yet (won't until late summer) and didn't take measurements or anything when I saw the apartment about a month ago. However, the current tenants have a giant rear-projection TV, so I think most of these will fit. If I could see a monitors at a few price points that would be best, since the budget isn't set in stone yet.

I'd also totally consider an offline smart TV, but I'll do those comparisons myself.

There is no need to get alarmed.
Dumb TV's that cannot spy on you still exist.

@MrFigs

Console games will still suffer badly from input lag.

If you want to compare TVs that are reviewed for dual use try here:

rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-usage/pc-monitor/best

They rate latency and prove resolution, refresh rates and 4x4x4 chroma at 60Hz and much more.

Way cool. I had never heard of this site until now.

I currently use a Haier HL42XD2 42" 1080p LCD TV as my monitor for my (ATX) HTPC. I got the TV for free 3 1/2 yrs ago so I have no complaints
