Its kind of related to hacking I suppose. but I had an idea for turning a cooler(like the hyper 212, or DK II) into a completely passive cooler with paper clips, essentially slipping them in between the fins and securing it, then building something of a web inside the case.
Anyone think it would work? I haven't gotten the paper clips yet. might make a decent video for them/you guys to make.
So wait... This is like a thing of moves xD
I am working to create a super amazing product with just a Computer CPU Cooler and Paper Clips. But I don't have any paper clips...
All jokes aside, I am looking forward to the video.
Wait, what are the paper clips doing?
Making it larger to distribute heat more? Though I'm not sure how well steel conducts heat.
Wouldnt work. Your connections wouldnt transfer heat, and paperclips, although having a high surface area, do not have any real thermal mass.
i think the paper-clips are supposed to touch the heat-pipes or fines and increase the surface area of the cooler. I think that they are also supposed to conduct heat through a web of paper-clips inside the case.
technically it would work, but the effect is going to be very small, so from a practical point of view it's pointless, because paper-clips are mode from steal which has 4 times lower thermal conductivity then aluminium & i doubt that it is possible to get a good heat transfer from the cooler to the paper-clips because those are round hence the surface conducting heat would be tiny.
I would use thermal glue and 0.5mm aluminium-sheets to extend the fines, but i doubt it would be worth it. The fines are too close together to have a good enough airflow without a fan.
Basically current heat-pipe air-coolers are designed really well, there is really no need to fiddle.
What about some simple copper wire? might be a good alternative.
