So I’ve been itching to get my Desktop off of Baremetal Windows and go with either a Linux Distro, Qubes, or Unraid (KVM) and pass through my hardware to create a gaming VM, however I’ve hit somewhat of a roadblock. I have gotten the VM operational with solid game performance, however I’m running into graphic glitches where I get fuchsia bars flickering on the screen, or even some thin horizontal white lines.
I’ve handed off a bios dump to KVM and tried the majority of troubleshooting stuff I’ve been able to find a la google fu to no avail. Would I have better luck going with Ubuntu with KVM or Qubes using Xen, or is there potentially something I’m missing? Maybe a flag somewhere or something I just haven’t thought of.
I’d be happy to provide any information needed. I’m just at a loss here what to do. Thanks so much for reading!
Sounds like vram errors, try downclocking things. It could also be that you’re using low quality DVI cables on a high refresh connection (if you are using dvi and high refresh)
ubuntu will make zero difference, it’s still just KVM, qubes uses xen but they actively frown upon gpu passthrough.

Thanks for the insight! I am on HDMI running 1440p@60hz. Didn’t know that about Qubes, so I’ll have to avoid that one I suppose, since support would be lackluster at best. I’ll dig around in the Wiki and Discord a bit and see what I can find.
I have already tried dropping core and memory clock by 50mhz each, but I did so using afterburner in the Windows VM, not sure how well that actually works.
Anyways, thank you again. Gonna dig around and keep tinkering!
you shouldn’t have to go below stock though, very odd behavior. I’d say get more eyes on it and try the discord, but my first suspicion is definitely hardware
