Trying to fix a TV. PSU or MoBo?

I recently came upon a “free” TV on el normie-book marketplace, where the guy said it “turned on” but had no picture. A Vizio E550i-B2E, from my research the connector for the backlight usually comes loose and needs to be re-soldered.

When I picked it up, the guy said it’s been sitting in his basement for some time, and tried it before I got there, it worked.

After getting it home, it worked for 2 days. And the screen started showing this:

This is what shows for the startup logo, menus (which do seem to do things), and all inputs. Also, it still makes sound!

I tried replacing the T-Com board, I got a somewhat normal image for all of a minute or so (it was still screw-y though)… then back to garbage.

I have a feeling that it’s most likely the power supply, but I guess it could also be the motherboard. And I’d rather not replace both if I don’t have to. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a supply voltage issue.

Take a look for buldged/ruptured capacitors.
