Just a random thought ,since i’ve been thinking about my NAS redo. I have been running Core for awhile toying with it, and I always have the same problem with VM’s. I can’t get a Windows install going. Invariably it faults during install, or once installed and I start attempting to install updates or other software, it just hangs the VM. I have only been able to get a Linux VM running reliably.
There were a bunch of security holes in intel CPUs of that era that got patched by intel via operating systems installing firmware updates. With the end result of the CPUs running about 1/2 of their previous speed, and lacking some features. I had an intel CPU that lost the ability to run virtual machines.
i7-3770 works fine running VMs. I’ve used bhyve briefly for Windows VMs and it worked fine for the little I used it for on FreeBSD. I mainly use it for Linux to run Debian (build OpenWrt images) and sometimes LibreELEC. I don’t know how it’s setup using TrueNAS Core though…
Oh I am, it was just running on that for toying purposes. I found it odd that I couldn’t get a Windows VM to run right on Linux, and I can’t get a Linux VM to run at all on Hyper-V
