Troubleshooting C_Payne PCIe Riser Card

Hello everyone,

Just got a C_Payne PCIe 4.0 X4 Riser card that goes SlimSAS(SFF-8654) to MiniSAS HD(SFF-8643) to convert one of my U.2(MiniSAS HD) ports to a PCIe X4 Card slot. I am not detecting a device in lspci using both a 7800GT GPU and a TP-Link wifi card for testing.

The motherboard used is an Asus WS X299 Sage with i9-7980XE.

So far my troubleshooting consists of…

  • Seating and reseating the PCIe 6-pin power connector for the riser card
  • Reseating both ends of the SAS cable
  • Trying both of the motherboards U.2 ports
  • Trying multiple different PCIe cards including a slot powered 7800GT and TP-Link Wifi Card
  • Attempted setting PCIe bus speed to 1.0 to see if it was a weak signal over the SAS Cable

I’m at a loss, don’t know where to go from here. I think I need to order a second SAS cable to see if I just got a bad one but the strange thing is wouldn’t the GPU at least get warm to the touch from being powered up? It’s not, does it not turn on without a link state? It’s fanless so I don’t know how to check if it’s got power.

Anyways here’s some pics and links of the parts used.

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks!

I am unsure what this is, it could be a number of different things unfortunately. Do you have a pcie adapter card to see if the u.2 port itself is causing the issue?

Also, the issue seems to be very similar to this one, where the user was attempting to use a port that was probably supposed to be for u.2 for a full sized slot.
