[Troubleshooting] Added a HDD; PC won't turn on

Hi guys

I just added a 2TB HDD to my build, and now it won't turn on. The motherboard start button is lit up, but no fans spin, and I don't even get the Q-code panel to light up. I have no clue what has happened or what I haven't connected. The only reaction I get, is the coil whine from my PSU stopping momentarely when I hit the start-button, and then it just continues without any effect on the PC.

Here's my build:

* i5-4670K

* ASUS M6 Impact

* Crucial Ballistix Tactical 8GB CL8 1600MHz

* Kingston HyperX 3K

* Seagate Barracuda 2TB ST2000DM001

* Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X OC - BF4 Edition

* XFX ProSeries 850W 80+ Gold - Fully Modular

* Bitfenix Prodigy

* Windows 8 Pro

Thanks!

if the fans are not spinning, and the board does not react wenn pushing the mobo start button, then its for sure a power issue, reseat, the 24 pin ATX power connector, and reseat, the 8 pin cpu power connector.

If nothing seem to work, then dead psu or dead mobo.

Does it turn on if you disconnect that 2tb drive? Check all psu connections as its a modular psu you may have pulled on a cable at the psu

Your boot order is probably botched up.  Does it boot if you disconnect the 2TB drive?  If so, you need to find the setting to boot from the other drive instead.

I tried to remove the HDD, but it makes no difference. I haven't had time to do an out-of-case build yet, but I will attempt so tomorrow. My PSU is indeed modular, and you may be right.

It doesn't boot in to BIOS either. It is completely silent. Dead, even. I tried w/o the HDD, yeah. No difference :/

I have reseated both, but they may be sitting loose in the PSU. I'll have to build everything outside the case tomorrow, and try again. I have narrowed it down to either of those two myself, but there is light in the MoBo start-button, and there's coil whine from the PSU. It would be strange if they did that whilst dead.

check the jumpers on the new drive

Weird.  Going to suggest an out-of-case rebuild to help see what the problem is.  Are there any signs of "life" in the case?  Any fans, lights, or noises?

Well, the onboard start button is lit, but the Q-Code panel and all other lights are off. Still haven't gotten around to doing any out-of-case stuff, due to a really packed schedule. I'll probably just re-submit the thread when I have done some more testing.

Thanks
