ok, so I'm building a computer, plugged everything up, the computer wouldn't turn on. I checked if the psu is working, which is was. I plugged everything back up again (motherboard, cpu, ssd,) and it's not turning on, fans spin for a split second, the cpu cooler lights up for a second, then everything dies down. I plugged only the motherboard and the cpu to the psu (8-pin and 24 pin), the computer turned on, I can see the fans spinning and the water cooler pump running. when I plugged in the ssd (6-pin) to the psu, the computer turns on for a split second, then dies down (I think I set off the breaker from the psu because I always hear a click before it dies down). im not sure what im doing wrong here :(
You're shorting something out. Try other sata power cables and rear ports on the psu. See if there is any fouling of the sata power on the ssd. Also try the ssd in another machine.
You are definitely shorting the power supply out through the sata bus, the SSD might have an internal short in it or it might actually be the plug in the back of the power supply that is shorting, have you tried using a different hole in the back of the power supply? I'd also try that. I personally use an RM 850 and it hasn't let me down yet, nice and silent and runs everything that I throw at it.
