Trine Devs: "We failed our fans with Trine 3. Now we are trying to make a comeback" (New game announced)

Source: Reddit AMA

We are Frozenbyte, a game development company mainly known from our Trine series. Our latest addition to the series did not go as expected, and we had to make quick turns or face extinction. Now we are trying to make a comeback with Shadwen, which is a completely new type of game for us.

Their new game is called Shadwen. It's a stealth assassination game that prioritizes freedom of movement and has some time manipulation elements. The demo is availible for download for the next 2 days. The higher the scores of the players in the demo, the lower the price of the game.

Some highlights from their AMA:

We failed miserably with the communication, delivery and everything else regarding Trine 3.
We intended to tell everyone that our launch price, $21.99, was supposed to reflect that the game was first part of a $60 Trilogy. But as said, there's no excuses from our side and we are deeply sorry for failing.
As for now, we must try to make a comeback. Giving up since so many people hates us seems just wrong.

Will Trine 3 still get any love? Would love to see more content for it. :)

We will continue to update the game, and hopefully some day we are able to publish also more content to it. We added >one small level in November and the user-created content has been flowing in constantly.

They weren't "trine" very hard during development

On one hand my hopes are minimal since Trine 3 seems to have been a flop, but I do have to give them credit for admitting that Trine 3 wasn't up to par.

I just hope there's more scenery to Shadwen than dark and dingy dungeons.

Trine 3 isn't too bad if you get it on sale like I did, but ya it was probably just too big of a game for them overall, or they simply didn't spend enough time on it. Much like MGSV....

Trine3 was okay. Not the best and not the worst title I ever played (looking at you Ubisoft and EA). Hope they survive.
Edit: I forgot to mention the best level select ever.

I dont realy see what was wrong with the game.
i realy liked it.

I heard that the biggest complaint was the length.

Yeah the story line is a bit short with an open end indeed.
BUt graphicaly its still an insane game if you ask me.

How short is it? The first Trine I completed to like 95% in four hours, and I thought that was rather short.

There are about 8 levels.

Wow, that is short :(

Yes kinda.
Also open end.

8 levels? LOL! My God that is short.

Try that on it.
I got to 144 out of 180.
