TOXIKK early access beta will start 22. 1. 2015

Woohoo! So, Toxikk (a modern arena FPS, if you can believe that) will start its early access beta for the people who bought one of the founders packs a few months ago. I'm pretty stoked for this game and can't wait to get my ass kicked in it!

If you bought one of the founders packs you should check your mail, they sent out the keys today. Toxikk is a modern arena FPS, and the developers are following their "no bullshit" policy to this day. From the few videos that Reakktor Studios have put out it seems like they were heavily inspired by Unreal Tournament, but you can see that for yourself if you like.

So, is anyone else excited about this? I only bought the base founders pack for 15 bucks which got you the game key, access to the beta and a little emblem on their forums, but I really hope that this'll end up with a healthy multiplayer scene in the end. The movement they've shown off seems interesting so far, but the level design will probably make or break this game. I wish I could recommend it or tell you more about it, but until the 22nd nobody really knows.

Not a fan of arena FPS, but I guess Quake and Unreal Tournament fans are going to love it.

I'm looking forward to playing this. I also got one of the $15 packs. It's been a while since I played a shooter like this but I look forward to giving it a try.

I think it looks great. Nice little throw back to the run and gun genre, I'll probably get it!

I just played it today, it's great fun so far. I think there are still some balancing concerns (the cerberus, which is a rocket launcher, spawns too quickly and has too much ammo IMO and your standard pistol is incredibly weak) but besides that it's awesome. It runs great, has all the options you could want, looks okay and the movement is just awesome. If they have decent matchmaking and the other maps are also fine then it'll probably be a huge time sink for me. Just don't think that you'll get a modernized Quake here, it's heavily inspired by UT and definitely plays that way. As far as I could tell there are none of the large vehicle maps available yet, which is a shame.

If it weren't early access I'd give it a go it looks fun.

I've never played an arena FPS but I just played for 2 hours and the only reason I stopped was to watch the Tek

this is a game. everyone. must. play.

one gripe: lack of triple monitor support (yes yes I know early access blah blah)

So far it's an excellent game.  I can't wait until we have more than one map to try out.  The Cerberus definitely needs a nerf, and possibly the shotgun as well.  Starting pistol could use a bit of a buff, but the other weapons seem to be fairly well balanced.  That sniper rifle sure is a beauty if you've got a steady hand ;)

Only issue I have so far is that I sometimes get crashes when I'm viewing the servers list.  Not sure what's causing it, but it's there.  Oh, and this game is OPTIMIZED LIKE CRAZY.  I know it's not the most visually intensive game, but it does look really damn good and on an overclocked 3570k and a single 290, my minimum FPS was 161.  Average was about 190.  It's nice to have a game that I can run at full settings @144hz that isn't from the 90's.

Probably should've mentioned that I'm running it at 1080

Can Toxikk be picked up as an Esport like Quake Live? Anyone?

That really depends on a few things: Will there be sponsors for it? Will the devs support it? Will it actuall be a good competitive game when it comes out? etc. As far as the player base goes, there are some really good players out there playing it right now. It'll definitely be a competitive game, but whether it'll be an eSport we'll have to see.

Yeah, just wait. Most people playing right now bought one of the founders packs a few months ago, they just wanted to help the development of the game. Just keep an eye out and maybe give it a bash after its release or after the early access version is well worth playing. Right now there's 1 map and 2 gamemodes, so yeah.

I don't really have a problem with the cerberus as a weapon (except for the lock-on mechanic maybe, although I haven't figured that out as of yet) I just think that you get way too much ammo for it and that it spawns too quickly. It's supposed to be very powerful, but you end up in situations where 5 people are running around with a cerberus, constantly resupplying ammo for it, and insta killing you with your tiny little pistol. It's even worse in the team mode.

The shotgun seems fine IMO. You have to get really close and the alternate fire takes a really long time to reload. And it's absolutely useless at range, just like a shotgun should be.

I don't know about the pistol. It really needs a buff, but I'm not sure if they should increase the firerate or if they should make every shot more powerful.

And a small update from me: The team-mode is absolute insanity, and I love it. Maybe it's just because my personal skill has gone downhill over the last few years, but being in a team makes it WAY more enjoyable IMO. Without a doubt, the competitive mode will be 1v1, but as of now I'm enjoying this a great deal.

Again, balancing concerns are still there and are actually even worse in the team mode, but the game itself is more enjoyable to me if I can rely a bit on other people.

I kinda want to play it somehow, but what I should be expecting in this game? The only FPS I'm playing is CS GO, I'm okay with no iron sights but no cover sounds crazy.

Look up gameplay videos of it. It's essentially Unreal Tournament. Really fast movement, lots of health (you don't just die after a couple of hits), no regenerating health, armor and "supercharged" health upgrades on the maps, you start with a shitty pistol and you need to pick up weapons on specific spawnpoints, etc. It's your typical arena FPS.
