My friend was telling me I could torrent Windows7 and copy the iso onto a disc then boot off the disc and have Windows for free. Would that be a good idea or should I not try that? I was just thinking of what the consquences would be if I failed. Could I reformat and install Linux until my next paycheck if it is a failure?
You can do it. I would recommend doing that, but then upgrading to windows 8. Its legal and super cheap.
Just because you have the ISO and can install windows doesnt mean you could activate it, unless you use Windows Loader or something, which of course, is illegal. Safer to use Linux, man.
Dont risk pirating software. You could also end up downloading a modified windows 7 copy with malware pre-installed, even though the torrent description may say "untouched".

I've been going to the places for years and have never had a bad download.
Then my plan worked perfectly.
I totally forgot about upgrading windows. Thats not a bad idea, since my main concern was Microsoft finding out after some random update. I'll have to try it and hope it works otherwise I'll be super mad at myself.
Also I do understand the risks of torrenting and viruses. I'll be downloading Linux on a disc just in case, that way I can format and get rid of anything I might get. My idea of a failsafe I guess.
