So my buddy is selling me his gaming build to leave for an out of state job here is his specs he knows
Intel Core i7-2600k 3.4 ghz CPU
// Nvidia Geforce GTX 670 GRAPHICS CARD
// 8 gigs RAM
// 1 TB HDD
// ASUS MOTHERBOARD (unknown model)
// Corsair CX 750 POWER SUPPLY
PRICE IS 300?!?! Do you call BS? Or Complete Steal?!?
I'd pay $300 for that.
Yeah, it may be a bit "old" but it still is quite fine. You can find the GTX 670 for around ~$150 on ebay, and it still is a pretty decent GPU.
My old build used have the same specs. It will play just about everything at 1080p withou AA. The 2600k will over clock like a boss so you may want to get a nice cooler for it.
Even with the gtx 670? What upgrades could be done that I could replace or add?
Hell yeah, thats a great deal!
I would get a back plate for the GPU, and and maybe a new CPU cooler depending on temps. Fan upgrades wouldn't be a bad idea either.
Cooling doesn't change as fast as the electronics so those will carry on to any other upgrades
OC the CPU up to 4.2 Ghz and have a slight OC on the GPU and you should be alright for the next year and after that look at updating the GPU. The 670 is still an upper mid range card so you are good for right now.
16GB of RAM if you do a lot productivity stuff.
Looks pretty dusty, you should probably clean it up a bit
If everything is working correctly (which I assume since you're buying it from a friend), then clean it up, change the orientation of the CPU fan (looks like it's blowing into the case, it should just blow directly at the exhaust fan) and maybe try to overclock the CPU a little (depending on the exact motherboard you might not get an insane OC but a little bit of extra juice should be in there nontheless).
Yeah, go for it if your friend can be trusted and maybe swap out the GPU if you're not satisfied with the performance (should be slightly slower than a 960 at stock).
I would pay $300 for that, far better than any best buy bomber you would buy for $600 :O
$300,- is a good deal, if its fully working.
Upgrade the gpu someday, and you are good to go.
2600k is still a very capable cpu.
A friend of my also has a 2600K overclocked, he recently killed his mobo, so it was a bit tricky to find a replacement board.
But wenn we had found a brand new Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 for cheap, he´s up and running again.
He recently upgraded his gpu to a GTX970, and it performs great.
2600k has no single issue in maxing out that 970 even multiplayer BF4. ultra
The GTX 670 is nothing to sneeze at, still. It is roughly equal to an R9 280, which is meant to play games at 1080p with high settings.
If you want to improve your system, there are two things you can do. The first would be to sell the GTX 670, and put the extra funds towards a newer card. Second would be an SSD.
I would just use it as is. If it works, then why spend more money on it? IF you find a fault with it, or you have more money burning a hole in your pocket, then start replacing things. As is though, it should be awesome for 1080p gaming. Above that and you are getting questionable.
