Today the Internet Broke(For NA)

The News:

Today starting at about 4-5 AM EST several Tier 1/2 in the US and Canada started experiencing issues with traffic being routed improperly as the number of BGP routes hit 512K routes. This could cause issues for users in the US and Canada as well as any trying reach sites that are hosted in the US and Canada, as packets were lost or dropped due the routers being unable to find a route to their destinations.

The Paranoid/Lack of Trust:

The ISPs in the US and Canada failed to upgrade their hardware to account for the steadily increasing number of BGP routes and thus failed us again.

meh, there is no issue at all. If you had network who needed to have it all, then yes you have problem but that's not how it is set up at all. It goes by layers the most important are working on EBGP and goes down to proprietary routing protocols like EIGRP and even RIPv2 in some cases.
