To SLI or not to SLI

So I got a message from a Kijiji wanted ad I posted a long while back looking for anyone willing to spare with a GTX 580 for a reasonable price. Since then, I've been pretty okay with my system performance, until I started getting newer games, such as Bioshock infinite, Tomb Raider, and the BF4 beta. Those games at max have been murdering my card. The most noticeable, BF4, caused me to lower most of my settings to medium to run it at a constant fps. Now I know not playing on MAX isnt the end of the world, but I really do enjoy the graphic experience that goes along with it (Like tressFX making hair look real for once).

The price is extremely reasonable: $120 Canadian.

I already have a 850w power supply that should handle everything fine. Do I jump on it? I fifgure this should keep me happy until the next round of cards, when I can get a mid range somethingorother with the money I get selling 2 580s.

Whaddaya think?

I say go for it!  It will really help with performance.  You have enough wattage to run it.  And Nvidia has good drivers

How is your case cooling?

It's all good. I have every fan slot filled in my Arc Midi R2 with 140mm high cfm fans

Does your motherboard have two PCIe 3.0 x16 slots?

I have a P8P67 Deluxe. It has 2 PCIe 2.0 slots @ 8x if I SLI. No issues there

Do a little research and check if it is SLI compatible

Trust me, it can support it. I have all the required hardware. Just looking for a second opinion is all.

I wouldn't be sure about it, unless they are the 3gb versions. Next-gen games look like they will be more RAM hungry, and some current games can max out the 1gb on my card.

I've seen others running the bF4 beta with SLI GTX580 1.5gb cards running between 45-90 fps. Drops only happen during the scripted destruction events. I am only gaming at 1920 x 1080.

I think the increase in recommended vram are developers acknowledging that gaming is shifting to 1440p, requiring more vram. I'm only looking to tide myself over for a year or so.
