Okaym to open, this seemed the most fitting section to post in, if there is a more appropriatte one, do say.
Hey all, for as long as Broadband was rolled out, I've had a pain painstakingly slow internet connection. On a good day I can get about 0.70 down 0.20 up on Speedtest.net, though in reality it is MUCH slower, my games on Steam download at 70KBs to 300KBs depending on time of day, but to put this into perspective, it takes about an hour and a half per GB for games. I constantly get kicked for ping etc, and by now I'm just fed up.
My ISP is saying that the line is the problem as they were layed when landlines were becoming widespread, whilst this is partly true, it's also they're fault, they can and have boosted my signal to 1.5MBs down, but they lower it over the next week.
I live about 1 mile from my exchange and not in a too rural area, but BT (the main line owner in UK) are asshats and won't lay new lines. My ISP (Orange) is terrible, so I'm out of luck.
I've been promised numerous times that I will be upgraded, about 1-2 a year. Alas, to no avail.
So my final question; does anyone have any tips to 1) Get my line upgraded (I can expect not a fibre connection, but maybe just new copper lines) 2) If changing my ISP would get me faster speed by either boosting it constantly or pushing to get the lines upgraded?
I've also heard that getting a 4G/LTE usb receiver could be an option, but it would need a high download limit, which right now makes it a null option.
Any help would be great, I'm fed up with the joke of an internet connection I have.
Thanks
