Hey all,
So we have a room that’s not big, but has a toilet next to it. We also have an oversized room, so I’m moving the loo. (drawings to follow)
Had to get rid of the crappy loft stairs (it was enclosed, but that went before I remembered to take a pic)
First had to disconnect a radiator feed that was in the way
(I confess, I was time constrained so got got a plumber to do it - I would have drained then filled the system while he did it live)
Currently putting noggins in to support the new wall.
Chasing out this side of the wall next

chased up wall for first stud
had to cut away the window lining a bit
now into the loft space, more noggins needed between joists
time to get the respirator as I need to remove some of that old insulation to make way for noggins

Finally got other boards up, I see it a lot where people board over joists, then mount studs, instead of fixing studs directly to joists.
masked up remaining room, as some saws make a lot of mess (and yes I did close it off properly after pic!)

Found that a ceiling joist perfectly lines up with new wall, so no need for full noggins which is nice.

cleared down both sides of the joist
So I could lay a length of 3x2 and a length of 4x2. This gives me more to fix the new head plate to and something to refix the ceiling board, which would fall down if I didn’t.
started cutting through after I’d put some screws in to hold the board up, going through to the new timbers
trial fit of the first stud

Of course while doing this, always good to do a ZFS scrub as it’s been a month since the last one (took around 6 hours)
This is on a machine that’s only turned on once a week/fortnight to access cold storage, it’s around 70% full (discs are 4TB).

I’ve had the modify the design a bit, I had hoped to make a cupboard, but it’s such a pointless shallow one I’m not bothering with. Missus would have been happy though!
So it’s going to be a large long WC now, hey ho!

Ah, you’re very welcome Troop, believe me I was there for a long time myself (renting). I’m grateful I don’t have to ask the landlord for permission, every time I want to hang a picture!
You’ll get there one day I’m sure
