My GPU fan is about to die - so I figured I would take the opportunity to look into getting a new card. I imagine I will need a nice new PSU as well since the one I have is as generic as can be. I would like to get something in the NVIDIA family. I would also prefer to keep it under 700$ total, but it can be a little more if it would make a big difference.
I am currently running Windows 7, an Intel i7 920 @ 2.67, a Geforce GTS 240, 16gb, and an unknown powersupply. Its a 5 year old machine and its serves its purpose.
I work with 3ds Max primarily, but I also do video editing and play a lot of games like Civ 5, BioShock, and Crysis.
For the GPU I reccommend this: http://www.amazon.com/Thermal-Direct-GPU-Contact-Graphics-GTX780-DC2OC-3GD5/dp/B00DWV3NM6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1386020104&sr=8-2&keywords=gtx+780
For the PSU I reccommend this: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Professional-860-Watt-Platinum-AX860/dp/B00A0HZMKG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386020165&sr=8-1&keywords=corsair+ax+860
Another great PSU and it is cheaper: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Series-80PLUS-Gold-Certified-Supply/dp/B00EB7UITQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1386020412&sr=8-2&keywords=corsair+RM
If you really wanna spend that kind of money on a very good GPU and one of the best PSU's out there I think those are very good choices.
I had to drop my price cap a bit thanks to the holidays and my sudden need for a new phone. I ended up with a EVGA GTX 660 and a Corsair HX 850 Watt ATX/EPS Modular 80 PLUS Gold.
I couldn't be more pleased. Everything stays nice and cool and silky smooth.
