Tight Budget "Gaming" PC. Really do not want to buy a console

Hi guys, looking to build a PC for casual gaming. Really don't want to buy a console, but do not mind low console specs. Will be used on an existing 1080p display however do not mind playing on low settings with lowish framerate? (25 - 30fps).

I have watched teksyndicates videos on budget/console killer gaming PCs however some of the products are no longer available or aren't that cheap in the UK.

The budget is a maximum of £300 ($450, please note prices in the UK are usually inflated.) (Would like it to match the Current Xbox one price in UK of £275).

So far I have the following and would like your opinions and/or cheaper/same price, but better performance alternatives.

Seagate 1TB 3.5 inch 7200RPM 64MB Cache SATA3 Hard Drive £37.99

XFX R7-260X-CNF4 R7 260X AMD Graphics Card 2GB GDDR5, PCIe 3.0 £90.22

EVGA 500W PC Power Supply £33.99

Crucial BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00CEU Sport 8GB Kit (4GBx2), Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-12800 Memory Module £41.99

MSI H81M-P33 Socket 1150 VGA DVI 8 Channel Audio mATX Motherboard £30.23

Intel Pentium Dual Core G3258 3.2GHz Socket 1150 3MB L3 Cache Retail Boxed Processor £48.87

I am not worried about OS as will be testing out steamOS and if I don't like it will buy some form of windows.

Thanks.

For the video card you suggested Video Card: Asus Radeon R9 270 2GB DirectCU II Video Card (£89.99 @ CCL Computers) which is a couple of pennies cheaper, but gives much better performance? :S Also have you ever purchased from CCL as this is the first time I have ever seen them.

Yes ..that 260x is a rip off.

Cooperman's intel build is spot on, but get the i3 4170. In all honesty you're going to need those 2 extra virtual cores. A pentium is more of a web browsing cpu. And is not hyperthreaded.

You will still be within budget with that i3.

Crossfire build

ASRock FM2A88M EXTREME4+, no heatsink on vrm=no overclocking, also a10 78xx max ram speed is 2133

The A10-7870K features four CPU cores running at 3.9 GHz and can reach a frequency of 4.1 GHz with Turbo Boost. The integrated Radeon R7 graphics chip houses eight cores for a GPU frequency of 866 MHz. It utilizes DDR3-2133 MHz memory up to 2400 MHz via AMD memory profiles. Additionally, the A10-7870K is an unlocked APU, allowing overclocking of the memory, CPU, and GPU.

The marginal cost-benefit at the given price point is good. By that I mean; for each additional £10 that you spend, you can get much more for your money. If you could increase your budget to £350, you would wrap this up nicely; with much more performance, or better component quality. Could be worth the wait.

Best bang for buck GPU would be the R9 270. Just north of £100, and it'll play most games on ultra presets.

AMD video cards are likely to be on fire sale next week too with AMD showing off the new cards on the 16th

Hi, yes I've found an R9 270 for £89.99 so is infact a few pennies cheaper than my originally posted card (R7-260x) and would give me much better performance?

When you say increase the budget which components would you go for which would be worth spending the extra £50 - £75 on?

This is also possible

I think the ASUS is a good choice. Consider the extra £ as a contigency; to cover costs of shipping. The build vrtnipatuljak has configured is good, with a good choice of motherboard. Important to get adequate voltage protection, etc.

You might consider the i3-4130 as an alternative. Paired with a Gigabyte Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H

Do you think there will be a better deal on the r9 270 card that you sent me for £89.99? Also can you confirm whether or not you've had experience with CCLonline as I have never heard of them and the price seems to be to good to be true :S?

I have only ever used CCL once retailers will be selling off AMD gpus cheap soon to make shelf space for the new range of card's comeing next week.
With your budget i'd be looking for a second hand card from ebay myself you can get R9 280x's for £100

Wouldn't it be better to go for the 860k over the intel dual core overall? Dunno the price over there though.

I've only had one experience with them, buying a monitor from them recently. Arrived on time. As described. No hassle whatsoever. Would buy from them again.

I wouldn't say one is inherently better than the other. The 860k may overclock, but some games with favour Intel architecture. At this price point, I'd be happy with either processor.

But just in general having the quad core is going to do a bit more for you isn't it?
