Thumbs up on my purchase?

Greetings!

in a nutshell, I'm building my first rig, and through discounts/accommodations through my job I'm getting amazing deals. My question here is related to a recent HDD purchase. I will be running an SSD for OS and applications, and my storage needs are minimal so I didn't need a large capacity HDD. I'd sooner spend the same money for speed and quality than capacity.

I've heard Logan recommend WD Drives in a few of the RTW build videos, and I work in the industry so I have also heard great things about WD's Velociraptor line.

I saw a new-in-box WD Velociraptor on NewEgg for $69.99 (MSRP $149.99) and swiped my card! I feel like I grabbed a good deal that meets my needs...

just looking some validation! Did I make a good purchase?

PS: I found you via your RTW YouTube channel and I have become a big fan! I tell my customers and co-workers all about you! Kudos to the whole Tek Syndicate team! It may not be saving babies, but what you do is important and I can't thank you enough for sharing your knowledge with this community!

Nice how many GB was it. the velociraptors are really fast reliable drives just expensive as hell

They are amazing drives. They are just about as close to enterprise as you can get at the consumer level.

300GB, sorry I left that out! But I'm new to this and my buddy told me that its a great drive but that the velociraptor line was intended to be used in pairs in RAID. Rained on my parade a little bit because I'm trying to stay within a budget! Does anyone know of a reason it would be BAD to run a solo velociraptor? If I have to I will buy another, but I'd obviously prefer not to! Thanks!
