Threadripper Reset Fixes

sorry about maybe asking the obvious, so the only solution to this problem is to replace vega with nvidia card?..

You may be able to init the card with an alternative uefi via the cli

Okay, thank you - not sure how to do it but will look around.

I also tried to switch cards around, and make Vega host card and WX 7100 guest - but that was tottal failure - as system just froze and reboot upon initialization

I was sure that I would be able to get it running on my system as well. Again, super noob level here - but this is important for me as it is vital for my restoration work on legacy hardware - mainly industrial DLP 3D printers.

Just looking for something that I can get up&running. Whole purpose of my system is to be able to boot into VM with dedicated GPU as it is needed for the software I need to run.

The VEGA has a reset bug, it is completely unrelated to ThreadRipper.

Did you stop the kernel from initializing the console?

Okay thank you. And if I understand correctly there is no fix for it outside of inside of Windows 10?

I’m sorry but I don’t understand what that means

I documented most of my steps here:

Anyone know why Libvirt suddenly stops working? I have an X399 TAICHI MB with a 1920X and qemu-KVM worked fine on BIOS 2.0 but i updated to BIOS 3.2. I am running Fedora 28 on Kernel 4.17.7.

Now i get a Domain requires KVM but it is not available error. i made sure SVM and SR-IOV are enabled in the BIOS and everything seems to be the same as before, all i did was update the BIOS from 2.0 to 3.2, is there anything different we need to change with this new 3.2 BIOS?

Thanks

Did you enable IOMMU?

Yes everything is set to enabled SVM, SR-IOV and IOMMU, it seems the amd_kvm module is unable to load with this 3.2 BIOS, it loads fine in BIOS 2.0 though, do you need any other information?

I’m experiencing the same issues with the Asrock X399 Professional Gaming after updating to the 3.2 bios

Can you guys post the output of dmesg? I need to do a build but I still have the x399 pro and can give it a try. You MUST hard reset your settings after a flash with asrock. Use the jumper. It’s possible you’re not really enabling stuff due to the changes in how it saved from one version to the next. Also make sure any of settings are set to “AMD” and not “asrock” – some asrock uefis have some cool new oc features but it seems to hard disable some things.

After some googling I found a post(original is down for me atm) suggesting to disable CONFIG_CRYPTO_DEV_SP_PSP

After recompiling with CONFIG_CRYPTO_DEV_SP_PSP=n everything is working again for me.
Without the config change I also had systemd complaining about udev initialization not finishing, so I guess the PSP stuff was blocking udev somehow which prevented kvm_amd from being loaded.

Can confirm this fixes the issue, running BIOS 3.2 with the CONFIG_CRYPTO_DEV_SP_PSP=n

Running Kernel 4.17.12, no tr.patch required

ASUS X399 TAICHI 1920X Threadripper

Besides the PSP issue, the AGESA update seems to work better for me then the old kernel patches, previously I had gpu re-initialization issues with 1 of the 2 gpu’s tested. Now I can restart the vm to my hearts content without any problems.

Yes it is running very well for me as well… seems to be running better than before

Just a heads up, there is a beta BIOS available for the ASUS available here (It was also sent to reviewers for TR2): https://www.overclock.net/forum/27565460-post763.html

I just installed it, and it’s working great for me. PCI passthrough works out of the box on Ubuntu 18.04, stock kernel. I also took a look at the IOMMU groups, and two of the USB controllers are now isolated. I just tried passing through one of them with success. Here is the full list:

Does this Beta BIOS also solve the issue with KVM_AMD not being available?

I have no issues with that, checked lsmod and kvm_amd is loaded. I am running stock Ubuntu kernel also, which is 4.15.

Hey all, this udev issue is also present on the ASUS Zenith Extreme if you upgrade to the latest 1402 bios. Presumably the only option at the moment is to downgrade the bios, rebuild the kernel with option CONFIG_CRYPTO_DEV_SP_PSP=n, then I can upgrade the bios and it should behave for now?
