Thoughts on DigitalOcean?

Hey guys,

I've got ohban.tech and want to start building some cloud based infrastructure. In the past I was using DigitalOcean for various projects and was always happy with it. However all of those projects have been temporary college projects.

Now I want to start building some servers for a long period of time to host everything I need/want on my own.
Has anyone of you used DO for long-term projects? How is your experience? Are their any major issues?

Costs are not a problem, I like their pricing and since I only need small Droplets or a bigger one using LXC, I see no problem from the billing perspective.

Prices and offerings look good with world-wide locations. They appear to offer a 99.99% SLA and support HA deployments so that's all good. It's essential to be able to deploy this kind of setup for any serious workloads;

I guess the only reason you wouldn't use it is if you are a mostly on the Windows and .Net stack.

Thanks for that info.

Happily I have not a single Windows box and don't use .NET and Java anymore.

Just remembered, when I watch teh Jupiter Broadcasting BSD Now stuff they often mention DO, either they just really like it or get a kick-back :-)

Worth watching though as I am sure they have discount codes to help you get up and running in DO.

DO is one of Jupiter Broadcastings favorite sponsors.

I got the free 60$ trail for DO, it was pretty good. and 60$ was enough to run a small( perfect size for the job is was doing) server for 1 year.

I like Digital Ocean service; but I don't like their pay cycles. Thats about it really.

DO is great. Quick deployment and they have BSD which is rare for VPS providers.

I conclude: DigitalOcean is a good platform and I am going to use it.

Thanks for all your responses! #PraiseTheCommunity
