Thoughts about FX 8320 / 8350

So this is what I'm going to order tomorrow. M5A97 R2. ( not the LE version ) It's 101$ .

I would prefer these chips if they actually had eight discrete cores. They actually only have four, with four auxiliary algorithmic cores. So it's like they've tried to make a hyper-threaded quad-core processor. I almost wish they would have just taken the old k10 architecture and found a way to make it draw less power at a higher speed and kept the nice 1:1 ratio of floating point units to algorithmic processors and then kept making hex-core processors with six actual cores.

PCI-e 3.0 is unnecessary as there are no single-GPU cards that can completely saturate the available bus capacity of PCI-e 2.1.

I have the m5a97 R1, will this be okay for an 8350?

The R2 vershon is just bios updated for FX chips out of the box it is virtually the same mobo it may need you to update the bios on the vershon R1 to use the FX8350.

Litlle question: I will get as the MoBo the Asus M5A99FX and CPU cooler the Thermalright Silver Aroow SB-E Extreme. If I go with the 8320, which clockspeeds will I get? And with the 8350? (ofc with reasonable temps). About 4.6 for the 8320 and 4.8 with the 8350?

4.5 would be stable without a doubt.

4.6, not 100% sure, but it should still be stable.

8350, if you have a gem of a chip, you can get it up to 4.9 stable.

take 4.6 for the FX8350 as a safe spot. the FX8320 maybe a bit lower, but 4.3 should be capable or if you lucky maybe also 4.5. on the Asus M5A99FX pro R2.0

I am the proud owner of A Fx8350 and A Sabertooth R2.0. I have my 8350 clocked at 4.916. I also rank 5th in Amd scores on the Asus realbench leader board. Beating out LOTS of crosshair 5's. My overclock and temps are rock solid with this board.  Don't let people fool you. The sabertooth R2.0 is a kick ass board. That will let you overclock to the sky. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEnYVyNp16k

Hey guys,Glad to see so many of you bothered to reply and share your thoughts, experience etc. I switched things up a bit, well, only the motherboard to be more specific.I got the gigabyte 990xa-ud3 and bought the 8320,they should arrive tomorrow. Next step is a hyper 212 evo and OC it to 4.0 Ghz. If you guys know a good guide for overclocking please feel free to post it here! I'd rather do it the right way and be safe. I don't want destroy the CPU because of a mistake with the voltage multiplier etc. I only aim for a stable 4.0 right now. :D
