I have a Thinkpad T480 with a thunderbolt 3 port on it I have a thunderbolt dongle that outputs two HDMI ports and requires display port 1.2. from what I have read so far the thinkpad and the dongle should be compatible, but every time I go to use it the 2 displays show up in my display menu but it won’t actually let me enable the displays. I am using Debian 10 and xfce4. my question is, what software if any do you need to get thunderbolt 3 / display port 1.2 working in Linux. do some of the proprietary drivers do a better job of supporting multiple displays? any other suggestions are most welcome!
There is a bug that may be affecting the thinkpad you have https://support.lenovo.com/fi/en/solutions/ht508988
thanks i was not aware of this! i just assumed i messed something up. now i just have to figure out how to update the firmware from linux… maybe from a virtual machine.
Firmware updates will come when they come. They’re managed by the linux-firmware
package, which is in turn managed by APT and the Debian repositories.
