Thinking of upgrading

Hey I am thinking of upgrading. My current rig stands at :

  • AMD FX 6300 @ 4.64 ghz ( sometimes 4.72 when I am feeling insane )
  • Cooler master hyper evo 212+
  • GiGABYTE 970A UD3-p
  • Corsair Vengeance 4gb x 2 @ 1960 mhz 9-9-9-26
  • AMD POWER COLOR 7870 ghz edition v2  @ 1170 mhz ( not stable any higher)
  • 4 x Cougar Turbine fans 120mm
  • 3x Fractal fans 140mm
  • Fractal ARC midi R2
  • Seagate barracuda 1tb 7200rpm
  • Kingston SDD 120gb ( not hyperX )
  • Thermaltake 650w bronze smart series M modular power supply
  • Window ME

The brand new GTX 970 has really got me interested, and I was wonder if you guys think my little FX can keep up with it. I am planing on moving to intel at some point but right now my rig is defiantly bottle necked by my card.  ( p.s Please don't tell me that I can't run a 6300 @ 4.64 on a 4 power phase board, I am pushing 1.52 v on the core because I am crazy ;) ) (p.s.s She been running there for 7 months with zero blue screen and never reaching past 55 C, and it is a 200 dollar MB and CPU combo so yolo)

"buy an I3" , no save 30$ and get a 6 core at 4.6 ghz for 90$.

he was just being sarcastic (he will grow on you after a while lol) ... and you are nutz for that kinda clocking with just an 212evo

it will handle the 970 fine

Gratz on the OC. My 4.8 GHZ 8350 gives me issues sometimes have to be humble at 4.5.:/

IMO 6300 is fine for 1440p gaming, but if you decided to SLI for 4k I'd step up to a 8350 or 4690k

Haha yah kinda thought  lol just kidding around.  My solid cooling comes from good thermal paste and great Air flow. Also many people underestimate how important it is to have a good installation for the CPU cooler, high pressure and even spread of paste. It can make like a 10 degree difference which is a sizable jump up in cooling.

(also oh god interpreting sarcasm from text, call fucking tom cruise because this is going to be mission impossible )

Thanks, I was thinking that same. I would step up to a new CPU and MB after the first 970, then get another and SLI.
