Thinking about selling my rig for something smaller (Maybe)

Hello Tek Forum! Quite often I'm looking back and forth at computer benchmarks to find out the best stuff, and my general research has come up with some interesting things. It's prompted me to think about maybe selling my current rig for something a little smaller/simpler, while still being able to compete in terms of gaming capability. Of course, like I have in the past, I come to you for help!

Case: Fractal Design R5. Has me drooling~

CPU: This is where things get funky... I've been hearing a lot about recent allegations towards the 8350 I currently have being so old, it'll bottleneck anything new. That, and its tech is simply too old that it won't be nearly as future proof as everyone may have thought. So, should my rig just get a new one of these? I've been considering the i5 4590 otherwise. New, great benchmarks from what I've seen. Should be good for gaming, right? Other ideas, perhaps?

GPU: My 760 is... alright. But, I think I want something a little beefier. Would a 960 be a decent bump up? Of course, I've seen that the 760 has some more stuff (Texture mapping units and such) than the 960, so, will that be a problem? I also want to get a 770 for a nice boost, but the problem is that I can't find one for the elusive ~$300-350 people have told me about. Am I just looking in the wrong places?

MOBO: Depending on if I go 8350 again, or intel 4590... What would you suggest?

RAM/PSU/CPU Cooler/HHD/SSD: Got this aaaaaaaaaaaaaaall covered, don't worry!

Final Notes: One thing for certain is that I wanna go for something a little less of a power draw. Several times the breakers in my apartment have gone off since I got a roommate. We're not even doing anything too strenuous. This tells me my comp might be a bit of an issue. And, it'd be nice to save some cash on the power bill with it in mind. Just thought it'd be worth noting.

ALSO, I'm just doing general gaming stuff. I'm not using this thing for anything nearly as demanding as I thought I would when I made it. I still want it to run like a beast with the games I do play, but, it's not often I throw anything Crysis level at it like previously thought.

Current Build: AMD-8350, ASUS M5A99FX Pro 2.0, 8GB G.Skill Ripjaw, MSI GeForce GTX 760, Antec 750W Gold rated PSU, HyperX 212 EVO Cooler

Looking forward to hearing from you all!

Note: I'm not selling the computer through the forums. I'm simply gathering information for the time being!

EDIT: With a lot of help, I settled on this build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/t6xZK8 Thanks for all of the assistance~

4590 imo 4460 is worse than an 8350. In multi-threaded apps the 8350 is still better than an i5. Imo i'd wait for skylake and zen. Or sell ur rig and get a 4590 or 4690 depending on the price. If you're not overclocking you can get a H97 board too.

Barely a cost difference with those, and yet, the differences are pretty sweet. Thanks! I've updated the original post with this CPU in mind

Ever considered the S340? I love it's simplicity.

It's very nice for sure, but the R5 has been on my radar for awhile. The S340 would be a good contender at least!

If you are actually selling parts of your old rig... Your (I'm assuming cheaper than retail) 8350 would be a nice, no hassle replacement for my 6300. And if your 760 is a 4GB version I'd be interested in that too (I have a 4GB version but could never find a twin to SLI it).

If you're going to actually sell anything through the forums in the end, be sure to make a separate topic in the buy/sell/trade catergory, and follow the guidelines there.
You'll probably get more interest that way, plus you need to provide proof of ownership (see rules in the buy/sell/trade category) if you do.

I'm not selling it through here. I'm thinking of selling it in general, and am looking at a second computer option. Sorry, I'll update the OP to make that clear!

the 8350 is still decent just not as nice as a high end i5 a 4660(I'd recommend if you don't mind spending a bit) this or 8530(if you really want to save a bit it is still useful for most games) is the way to go. The 960 will offer little improvement over the 760, like only a few percent. It'll use less power but thats about it.

Well, you should consider selling it here because you already have a buyer! And what about that 760, is it 4GB?

Sorry, you'll be able to buy one elsewhere much faster than I will be selling it. I'm merely getting info on a planned rig first, then consider my sales options. this could be months from now. Also, no, the 760 is a 2GB card, sorry!

I'd have to start my summer job and get the first paycheck or two before committing to buying them, so, just like you, potentially more than a month from now. Yeah, we're talking about a CPU that's $170 new, but I'm an art student so if you are selling it cheap enough, it's worth the wait. That all comes down to you and how much you think it's worth, based on how much use it's had. And awh, that sucks that it's just the 2GB version. I guess I'll have to save up for the 970.

Cheapest i5 (eg 4460) + midrange h97 board + gtx970 + 8gb ram + other shite. You wont need aftermarket cooler and the rig will use bugger all power.

So, doing a bit of my own research has come up with some stuff... Can't find a decently priced 760 anymore. And as nice as a 970 would be, it's probably a bit too pricey. Sure, the gains would be sweet, but, I dunno how worth it it'll be. Might I request a little assistance in finding a 760 listing someplace that is good and cheap? (And maybe someone who can explain why it's as much as a 970 everywhere I look)

Secondly, this has swiftly reminded me the whole mess is gonna be upwards of $1200 again, which is around what I paid for my current PC. Considering my current rig and what I'm going for, is this even gonna be worth doing? If not, maybe some cheaper options with less performance losses than can maybe shift this down to $800 or so? Thanks!

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/pX9qyc - i5, 290, with money to spare. No storage as I'd assume you'd keep your existing hdds/ssd.
or the same but with a 970 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-gtx9704gd5toc

How in the world do you people find such cheap options, when whenever I go to PCPartPicker, I somehow end up with 1 grand builds? XD Spooky kids. Thanks for the link!
