ThinkCentre M720q + GPU with adapter causes NVME to experience I/O error

Here are the following components:

When booted to my NVME drive, the storage experiences I/O errors. However, when booted via live disk, the computer is fine, and GPU is detected via lspci (I don’t have any mini DP to use and confirm).

Updating the BIOS to M1UKT77A/1.0.0.119 (04/24/24) didn’t help matters. Is it because it couldn’t handle all the lanes?

I’ve confirmed that removing the card causes the storage to operate normally.

I have a WX 3200 I can try which has gen 4 x8 as opposed to gen 3 x16. Not sure if that’ll help, but I’ll give it a shot.

The Lenovo documentation for that model lists 8x PCI gen 3 lanes, so it looks you were correct that it can’t handle all 16 lanes from the card. I would try the WX 3200 and see if that works out.

Aah! That could explain why my drive got affected in the process.

I downgraded to 1TB gen 3 NVME and that solved it

Unsure if there’s a relation, but Gen 3 2TB NVME are double sided, so this could be the reason why a single-sided 2TB Gen 4 got affected.
