Thermal paste

Hello,

I've got a question: i got my computer for about 3 years now ans i believe i keep it quit clean(dust, etc) but what i never have done is renew the thermal paste on my cpu..

Is that even necessary? i could imagine it would wear of after time?

thanx in advance

If the temps are fine then don't worry about it, it's not the sort of thing that will fail suddenly and catastrophically. But it's simple enough to replace if you feel like it anyway.

ow ok thanx ! the cpu never fails me ,i was just wondering if its good in advance before it suddenly faills to work because the paste should warn off... I just checked my cpu temp with speedfan and it says 78 degrees celsius with a burning logo left of it.Another programm i used is "speccy" and that one says its 38 degrees?

i asume and when i search at google 78 degrees(iddle) isnt that bad or not?

It depends on the specs of the CPU. Most have a safe temp around 90 or so but you need to see for yours exactly. Also make sure that you measure when your PC is a peak use (while gaming or a generic benchmark) to get the max possible temp.

What's the cpu ? but at iddle it is hot use aida64 or hwmonitor from cpuid to control temps

Most thermal pastes recommend replacement every 6 months or so, some of the better stuff does't dry out and lasts longer. If you are getting 78c or even 38c at idle those are bad temps! On my 4790k with a stupid amount of voltage I'm idling around 25c that being said the ambient temp in my house is very low. Try re-seating the cooler with new thermal paste. Most Intel CPUs are rated up to 90c and at-least the AMD FX series is rated up to 60c. Keep in mind however the rated temp at which a CPU throttles to protect itself from damage is normally only reached with inadequacy cooling while under intense stress for long periods of time. you should be seeing temps at idle no more then 20f over the ambient temperature of the room. If you don't want to worry about any of that just buy some Prolimatech PK3 or Gelid GC-extreme or something in that vein of non curing, non drying pastes.

i've got a i72600k ,and ok i downloaded hwmonitor it says at idle 35 degrees celsius and at full load it goes up to 70-75 degrees

replace it every 6 months? ow i have the same on about 3 years haha! mmm anyway i downloaded hw monitor and in the test it becomes idle not higher as 35 degrees celsius and in game about 70 degrees mayby replace it anyway

you might see a good drop in temps if you replace the paste <5c maybe, 35c isn't too bad for an idle temp depending on your cooler. For replacement, like I said some pastes last much longer then others and the environment the paste is in and the type of cooler will affect the lifespan.

as long as the temps are fine, dont bother about it.

paste is paste. it doesnt realy matter much.
