So I went out and bought myself a new i5 3570k and to go with it a CoolerMaster tpc 812 (stock fan) and I'm looking to oc it in the near future. I used the generic thermal paste that came in the box (just some cm thermal paste) and I'm wondering if its good enough for a decent oc (4.3-4.5). I have the MSI z77 MPOWER mobo and that has the oc genie button on it so I'm going to start with that.
Should I go out and buy a decent thermal paste or keep with the same generic one?
Thanks,
Jamie
Generic is fine for now but it's worth changing out for nice TIM in the future when that crap starts to dry out. Go for Tuniq TX-4, or Arctic Silver 5.
When you say future how long do you mean? 6 months?
ya If you want some good stuff I would recomend prolimitech pk 1 along with the ones you said
Yeah that'd be an alright time period.
Okay thank you for your reply much appreciated
Considering im at 4.2Ghz on a 3570K and only hit 65c on stress tests with a Hyper 212 EVO with the stock paster you should easily be able to get to 4.4/4.5
Should have no issues with stock TIM mate.
