Hi
So I just replaced my thermal paste after about 3 years of using the old stuff (I know I'm bad)
The temps before I replaced it using fur-marks and core temp to measure the 4 cores were between 85-87 degrees Celsius at 100% load.
I cleaned the CPU and cooler with a microfibre towel and isopropyl alcohol
after I replaced it using Logan's 'Pea' method the temps were between 79-83 degrees Celsius
is this still too hot?? did I mess it up?
oh and its the stock intel cooler
Other PS spec's
Intel Core i7 3770 @ 3.40GHz
Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 660ti GPU
Asus P8Z77-V lx Motherboard
8GB G.Skills ARES DDR3-1600 RAM
Corsair RM 750 Gold Rated PSU
Western Digital Black 1TB 7200rpm HHD
Samsung 840 Evo (250gb) Boot SSD
Cooler master Scout 2 case
Thanks in advance
As far as thermal paste goes, unless you seated the heatsink poorly there isn't really much more you can do to get lower temps.
You should definitely consider upgrading your heatsink if you want to see lower temps.
hmm... ok, would it be worth giving it another go?
They are ok for Intel CPU, as in they will not damage it. However it should not be that hot you should be more around 60c.

That's your problem right there. Get something even a slamm one like the HTPC Noctus or a Hyper 212 (not sure if a new bang for buck cooler is around).
Those stock coolers are just not suitable for 100% load. Fine other wise but you need a better one. All will be fine after that.
