Last time I asked the developer of the amdgpu driver whether Polaris GPUs can use FreeSync HDMI, they replied, “go buy a new graphics card.”
However, it seems that hardcoding the refresh rate range might allow Polaris GPUs to use FreeSync HDMI. This appears to be due to the lack of DMCU in Polaris GPUs. Is there a way to improve the amdgpu driver? For example, by passing the refresh rate range through kernel command line or improving EDID parsing?
