thanks for all of the replies! because our video files are decentralized and not at all local to one place, offloading via network is not an option for us.

So you are telling me that they don’t have a centralized storage, no ingest system, no proxy creator, but import 200 SD cards simultaneously to one host?

from talking with them, the way we run it now they are already having some issues at the current scale

so i don’t think adding more USB readers to one system is going to be the path forward.

Getting expertise from someone that actually knows how this stuff works is the path forward

At work, we take a lot of footage and we need to get that footage from the various sd cards and ingest it and copy it to a local server.

Is the footage taken by people?
If it is, would it be feasible to make ingesting a responsibility of those people?

Having 200 people ingest 6 cards each is a lot less effort than having 6 people ingest 200.

If this is automated (surveillance?), this seems like an issue with your overall process that needs fixing instead of treating the symptoms.

I’ve come up with a scenario in my head that makes his scenario make sense: A corporate fleet of dashcams. Even those could probably be dumped over WiFi, even if it wasn’t automated, but it’d likely be more hassle for the average user than just pulling the card and popping it in somewhere at the end of a shift and grabbing a fresh card in the morning.
