The ungodly AMD Zen APU (RUMORS)

Pure clock speed doesn't really work well as a measurement of "speed" on a different architecture.

It sounds like a top of the line enthusiast part. Therefore I don't care because it will be too expensive.

im not totaly sure, but i count 4 modules with 4 cores, and probably 4 fpu´s per module.
So im realy doubt that this cpu will have 32 logical processors.

4 modules with 4 cores is likely, so 16 logical cores with 32 threads.
32 threads doesn't really mean all that much, HT just makes a cpu tad more efficient at churning through multi threaded programs.

I think back in the day they showed that a 3.6ghz p4 without HT was as fast as a 3.0ghz p4 with HT enabled.

i´m pretty excited about it,
But still it looks a bit to good to be true.

Hopefully (fingers crossed) it will hark back to the Athlon days

I hope this supports dual-processor configs.

I will be happy as long as it is a decent step up in performance - but it really should also be a really good step in efficiency.

Seriously, I am not setting my expectations high. Not that I really need to. With DirectX12, gamers aren't going to need a ton of horsepower.

if it has HBM it's gona be super fast. i think one of the reasons why intel cpus are faster than amd is they have large fast caches.

This is most likely a server part, but I would consider building a gaming rig on it.

Likely a server part indeed, the ECC memory support shows that.
But a very high end 16 core isn't unheard of, but will sacrifice single thread as they're going to need to turn down the clock speed to keep it within TDP.

If I were amd I'd sell consumer stuff as such, 8 cores to smash intels I7s, 6 cores mid range and 4 cores as the low end.
Also dropping the GPU on the ones that are defective and sell them cheaper, like they did with some AM2+ cpus.

The ECC isn't necessarily indicative of a server part since the mainstream FX parts are all ECC compatible.

I did not know that.

Huh?

Although only ASUS is explicit about that information.

The main thing for me and it might be a problem if the socket is some strange shape or just hung is old coolers. I rally hope they keep the same mounting. I like my D14.

Hell no the socket is as old as the dinosaurs!
and just as heads up if you have to put that D14 on a new socket if you contact noctua thay give out new fitings to there existing customers for free.
noctua rock's now if thay can only start makeing all there fans black lol one can dream

Sounds wonderful, but I guess it's going to be prohibitively expensive too. I like AMD cpu's, in terms of bang per buck, and at the right price it could be the basis of a good workstation/server.

Ah yes. I have never had an issue but I do remember that Noctua have excellent customer service. Cool happy days.
