Used to use uTorrent but once they started bloating it and taking away features like the instant streaming for free was annoying. Also they don't force encryption by default which is kind of annoying. I tried an old version but worried about security issues so I've been on the qBittorrent train and it seems no better than any other client. They all accomplish the goal of downloading files so I'm satisfied for now. Also it's on Ninite so thats a plus.

There is also a function that lets you suscribe via rss-feed to a channel, no need for registration you just need a rss-reader (thunderbird has one for example).
i personaly use Deluge or Qbittorrent as an alternative to Utorrent. The interface of the both applications are very similar to Utorrent. But its open sourse, and works great, and no bloatware.
Transmission is also a decent open source alternative, which comes standard in allot of Linux distro´s aswell. I dont like the way Transmission works, but thats just personal.
To me the best free open source torrent clients are Deluge or Qbittorrent.
