The Tek 0191 | Windows 10: Your Own Creepy Stalker | Tek Syndicate

I think you guys meant Mountain View for the free WiFi thing here. At first, it wasn't that bad, all you needed to do was log in to your Google account and you got it. But things just got worse up to now, so I'm fairly certain it's finally dead.

Well considering both internet porn and hentai are just arrangements of pixels, I don't see much difference between the 2.

@Logan I've had good results with Diztronic phone cases. Haven't picked one up for my G4 yet but I don't think it should be too bad for thickness

@Logan @wendell

Might be a longshot but give Brady from Sixty Symbols a shout. He does the YT channels for the university of Nottingham who have many people working on CERN projects.

Here is Prof. Ed Copeland talking about what's left to do at CERN.

If you fancy a beer on the English Riviera give me a shout. I live in Hythe, Kent.

Have you dug into the settings of the Edge browser? Of particular interest is the ability to open any webpage with IE11! ...and there we were thinking that IE was dead!! Also you have to dig deeper into 'advanced settings' to turn on a home button and set your home page to the one you want - obviously MS are not keen that this is done easily. Good browser though this IE12!! oooops, sorry, Edge. I wonder if they asked U2's guitarist about using his stage name for their new browser!!??!!

@Logan @DeusQain you should take the A4 to julich (45 min from cologne) and see the solar power tower or see the DLR (German aerospace center).

If you pass through the Karsruhe area in Germany and need a guide to get drunk - let me know.
Try the small local breweries with unfiltered beers, called "Hausbrauereien".
If you are somwhere where they pour Rothaus ask for " 'n helles Hefe(-Weizen)".
Or say "Ich hätte gerne ein naturtrübes Bier." It is always cute when americans try to pronounce mutated vowels.
I hope you like it in Germany and remember: we usualy don't shoot people. :)
So... HAVE FUN!!! ,,, and welcome!

Damnit, I'm in Belgium and I won't be able to make it. Sigh... Really wanted to have a beer with Logan and Qain.

Hey guys,
I am from cologne. If you need a guide or some info let me know. Just send me an email.
Greetings from Ehrenfeld (part of cologne)

Greetings Kokolores

Is Wendell in 21:9 ratio ? I'm using the screen but it is 16:9 anyway (black sides), this youtube one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAjrQaFAR2w works with the 21:9 display perfectly though

Windows 10: tried it, it's even worse on touch screen than 8.1, 8.1 was borderline unusable, 10 is completely unusable, like the first time it switches to touchscreen mode (most of the time it doesn't switch automatically when I undock my Lenovo), the type to search function still, works, but from there on, I have to hit the magnifying glass icon to search. Also, who had the great (not!) idea of putting a taskbar on a touchscreen interface? That's just such a loss of screen real estate. The scaling is even worse than in 8.1.

That's just the usability part though. There are other things. Like for instance it eats storage space like crazy because it stores everything it harvests all the time, and you can't turn that off like you could in 8.1. The footprint is actually larger too.

Then there's the rollback, which is hidden, you have to manually boot in safe mode to get to it. After rollback, guess what, some spyware stays, and the 8.1 apps that actually made sense, like the calculator, are gone...

Then there is the fact that it's even worse malware than anything ever released before by Microsoft.

So Microsoft got a bunch of criticism for "8.1 with Bing" and for the prerelease version of 10. Guess what, 10 has Bing on all the time and you can't switch it off, and it will even bypass blocking Bing.com in the hosts file (which brings serious concerns on whether or not the firewall is even working). And not only Bing, but also Edge. Edge is nowhere near a functional browser, it has no developer features, you're basically browsing blind and dumb, and you can't uninstall it, and there is no initial browser choice popup, Microsoft doesn't ask you what browser you want to use, it keeps edge on the system at all times. 8.1 already violated EU anti-trust laws by keeping internet explorer on the system and by not offering the mandatory choice than was implemented in 7 after the EU court rulings (which brought Microsoft 970 million in fines to be paid, which they still haven't paid as the matter of fact).

Then there is the fact that Cortana for instance doesn't work if you opt out of the data harvesting, you get a message that Cortana can't work if you don't let it harvest your location data and don't let it access your contacts and mails.

And not only Cortana doesn't work. Windows 10 also embeds itself into Outlook. If you opt out of the spyware permissions (the hard way, by editing system variables, because the GUI opt-out is not really opting out on anything, it's a lie that doesn't work), then Outlook gives you a message that your contacts in Outlook don't work anymore... how is this supposed to work in any enterprise environment?

Then there is Wifi Sense, which is just a disrespectful disgrace. The mere fact that Microsoft harvests wifi SSID's and passwords, whether or not you chose to "share" them, is called black hat hacking. Kids have been sent to jail for less in the US, and Microsoft just gets away with it.

Windows 10 should be illegal, it's as simple as that. In fact, it's illegal in so many ways, that there will be a strong reaction. Microsoft is really going to regret this one, this time they've really gone way too far.

At least Google gradually complies with EU human rights legislation, and even Google Now with OK Google will work if you don't share your location, and pause all histories and even other item of data through the brand new privacy control screen for the EU, and Google has invested enormously in various data centers in different countries in the EU to store the data it does keep. I'm not saying Google isn't evil, because it is, and there is ample proof for EU human rights violations by Google, even after the new measures, but they're not nearly as evil as Microsoft.

I would like to see them start adding CUDA cores or an arm processors to your SSDs so you could distribute the processing for things like search, and thumb nail generating. Maybe even make it possible to do streaming compression so you could do stuff like double you disk space at the cost of slower disk speeds.
I have seen someone do something similar by hacking a heap of USB thumb drives so they could run searches on Rainbow tables using the control chips in the USB thumb drives.

@logan The mythical creature thing.......I don't think that it's something that most people sit around thinking about....but that being said....I think that - using our imagination and putting ourselves in a world where these things can manifest in an image that reflects our culture's view of said "inanimate" objects - (example - Cherry 2000, Jessica Rabbit or any humanized alien chick on any given scifi show) - Then yeah, people will start to fantasize about these things. I think many people have a different view as to what we find sexy. This is what attracts many of us to sci fi shows...not just hot mythical ...things...but being able to imagine and place ourselves in a world that might be more desirable...albeit glamorized....but still. Haven't you ever played a role playing game? Or read a great sci fi book? (that's a rhetorical question)

I don't think the OnePlus 2 is going to live up to the hype. Just noticed that the Snapdragon 810 in it is down clocked a fair bit to 1.8 Ghz to deal with the heat issues....

I feel that @Logan was too quick to shoot down Windows 10 as even once Cortana is enabled (she is disabled by default) Windows does a better job of telling you and helping you manage your infomation than say your Android phone with Google Now.

For instance in the Cortana application it has a 'notebook' where you can see everything she knows about you and you can manage, add and remove from it. On Google Now you have no clue at all.

Also if you read the Microsoft privacy statement you will find that:

Microsoft made it clear that, at least for advertising purposes, it does not listen in on your private communications. “As part of our ongoing commitment to respecting your privacy, we have updated the Microsoft Services Agreement to state that we do not use what you say in email, chat, video calls, or voice mail to target advertising to you,” the company said. “Nor do we use your documents, photos, or other personal files to target advertising to you.”

So please. Don't be too quick to shoot something down when you carry something far more intrusive in your pocket but let it off for being 'open source'. Those apps aren't open source even if the OS is (and I know @Logan is making an effort to get of Google Services as am I but I still type this on Chrome so I'm not going at them blindly, merely be example, and yes I know you can remove Gapps from Android).

I have a Windows tablet and it works fine. So does @Kat and his seems to be fine. The docking may be a driver issue with your Lenovo.

It's not hidden. It's in settings under Recovery. You don't need to go into safe mode.

Windows 8.1 apps can be downloaded from the store.. Windows 8.1 has a normal calculator and a metro calculater, anyway.

When you connect to a Wi-Fi network you are given the OPTION of sharing that network with your contacts.

It is not the default and it is optional.

Google recently said they'd avoid following that to the French:

Just correcting some of the misinformation there mate.

As for it being illegal we'll let the courts decide that one...

Does 'Operation Stack' effect non truck drivers in Kent very much? Looks like it'd be a huge annoyance getting around with that backlog.

I just come to ignore his comments after the non-sense he tried pulling a few months back. most of it is just paranoia and his bias towards Linux.
