Dear Logan, When I submit criticism of The Tek (in the most abrasive way imaginable, because my communication skills are through the roof /s) this doesn't mean that I hate the show. What it actually means is that the show is generally good enough for me to bother submitting feedback to make sure it stays good / improves. If a show was mostly or wholly terrible I wouldn't even bother submitting feedback because there's nothing there worth saving / keeping from being ruined from the minority of the content / characteristics that's bad. ~Then~, I would just stop watching without saying a word. The thing about criticism, even constructive criticism submitted in a non-abrasive way, is that it's only submitted when something is wrong. Nobody tells you shit when you're doing everything right. So from now on, assume that whenever (or let's say 90% of the time) I don't say anything, The Tek / other videos have been great.
Although I don't watch your show to the exclusion of other online tech shows, I watch yours because, compared to your competition, you are, whether willingly or due to a lack of opportunity, more oriented towards the community as opposed to sponsors/manufacturers. You are not in Intel's or Nvidia's pocket like a scrawny guy I could name. Also, you cover areas of tech I care about such as PC gaming and more traditional form factors which have long been wrongly declared dead by many authors and vloggers.
Additionally, you cover the political and privacy issues related to tech more than any other. And yes the privacy issues related to tech are real and anyone who accuses you of wearing a tinfoil hat or of being a technophobe doesn't understand human nature or just how pervasive and universal corruption is, and should go fuck themselves with a mexican tree (i.e. a cactus).
An aside to the "bionic" eye and the folding of the lens like a taco.
Since my mother's worked for an ophthalmologist for over 2-1/2 decades, I'd heard long ago from her, how they do cataract surgeries, which have used this same technique for quite some time (over a decade? two?). Foldable lenses, when that technique was introduced, made the incision only a few millimeters to perform the entire lens removal and replacement, and no stitches required.
Like @Logan, I'm looking forward to this getting developed into a safe, mundane everyday treatment to eliminate eyeglasses I've had for 3 decades and counting. (I just couldn't ever get used the eyedrops during exams at the optometrist, let alone poking a lens into each eye every few days.)
Surgery to eliminate eyeglasses or contacts, as simple as cataract surgery is now? HELL YES. Since that doctor's only one province over in Canuckistan, maybe I might be crazy enough to consider a medical vacation to get this done a few years down the way when/if more clinical scrutiny shows it's a viable treatment with little to no adverse effects.
P.S. Been waiting a few days since seeing the early video on YT, to mention this here and avoid the general crassness and swill of youtube commenting. And I hope that Computex and the jaunt about China goes well.
What I really liked about the bionic eye thing is that it is different than other solutions out there from a marketing perspective...I know it is till early to talk about marketing plans for this thing, but I liked the fact that they are targeting every body with it, you do not need to be an urchin to use them, rather, you want your eye sight become better, we have the solution!!
I hope governments wont put their hands on it and make it some super vision gadget for their spies though!!
