Honestly he’s one of the lucky ones compared to the rest of the nation.
Feel free to weigh in on this, atm in Canberra I have 25mbs/10mbs with a 100GB datacap for $30 a month
Honestly he’s one of the lucky ones compared to the rest of the nation.
Agreed… see this vid couple days again… internet in aus is a mess…
My home lab has a single better connection than the 3 combined @work
Small business and companies are getting gouged by this and they run the risks of lower turnover and productivity if they don’t switch over
Meanwhile in New Zealand 1000/500mbps national fiber availability
LOL yeah stop rubbing it in. NZ can be quite progressive in some ways. As long as you don’t have to go to the store to buy a block of butter, need to take out a mortgage for that.
I am hooked up to the NBN, but only get the Fibre To The Node service. That means they run fibre to the local phone exchange, and I get VDSL over old copper phone lines. So I probably get 12/1 speed.
Kzahkstan’s average steam download speed isn’t that much worse than Australia’s at this point. last time I looked, it was better!
Those 8wire fiber ring initiatives around Oakland and Wellington from 20 years ago started to bear fruit. Nice
Australia has next to no fibre lines even with the nbn and they’re mostly in capital cities. I was with transact before they got bought by iinet, but I’m still on the transact lines because I haven’t switched to a new plan. One of the few people that have fibre in southern Canberra and the neighbours have a telstra connection that struggles to get 10mbs/5mbs
I dont mind the internet is slow … I hate when it is limited…I pay alot for internet and it is slow but its unlimited so I can just wait and download everything.
Fuck streaming…download it and win. Its not like storage is expensive ?
Live streams or Netflix and similar services are almost unwatchable for me, usually more stable if I use mobile data on my phone
I youtubedl it or wait for a torrent. Slow internet is a thing but not the end
why is it so bad?
is it just because Ausieland is out in the middle of nowhere?
My uneducated opinion on the matter, I don’t work in any of these fields so don’t have any of the inside goss.
There is that, but there are a few underwater cables feeding the place.
For the most part, no one is willing to spend the money to put in good infrastructure.
The government is currently trying, but everytime there is a change of government, they change how it is going to be done. Not to mention the subpar job that is currently being done by the cheapest contractors, meaning the spend more a fair bit of time fixing what they have installed rather than installing new stuff.
The telcos are pushing wireless and copper. No companies are pushing copper, because they don’t believe people want it. And by that, they don’t believe people are willing to pay huge amounts for the service. So it’s not getting done.
Also, it is a big place. similar land area to USA (excl alaska), although most of the inner area is full of lizards.
