The small linux problem thread

I think I installed some malware with exes, would deleting the wine directory solve the issue?

Only if the malware is windows only.

I was running XFCE, i remember configuring Proxy settings on Gnome and it was quite easy.
So far i’m not using anything in particular due to the lack of another connection to configure it with.
I think i’m just going to run a different distro, Netrunner should be fine for this purpose.

Well I feel special ed now. Thank you!

In this video, Linus goes over the benefits of being a Windows user. It’s pretty good. I’m having a hard time finding any holes in his logic here.

I think the small problem you are having here is your particular choice of distro

I have an RX580, using Ubuntu 19.04
I have been using the RocM drivers
I recently attempted an apt-get update / upgrade and i have come across this issue:

I am unsure how to fix and would really appreciate any help

Looks like you gotta do a wget.

Specifically

wget -qO - http://repo.radeon.com/rocm/apt/debian/rocm.gpg.key | sudo apt-key add -
sudo apt update

That worked, thank you - But why did it work?

Someone more techy can explain it better. But from what I understand, to be able to download software via a repo you need to have a key, and that key has to be the same key that’s on the server. The people maintaining the repo updated the key and you were on an older key version, so since your key didn’t match with the key on the server, it wouldn’t let you download the package until you got yourself the new key version.

No UKUU for Ubuntu 19.04?

Didn’t UKUU go paid?

Not used it myself, but heard from others who wanted to patch/upgrade their kernel the easier way

Yes, it did. There was a thread about it. It’s not much, and I think it’s a lifetime license.

Purchase

A personal license for Ukuu is currently available for $12. This is a single-user license that is valid for lifetime, and includes future updates.

Saying that, I should support paid Linux software, it is good for the ecosystem in general

Yeah, definitely.

If I had used it, I’d be paying for it now.

I just don’t use Ubuntu.

I think it’s important to support devs who need the support, and if $12 one-time fee is too much, you can build a kernel yourself.

and same price as a year of Patreon(at peasant tier), with less fees

Anyone have a solution for this besides setting install-only to zero and manually pruning kernels?

Going to try this:

echo "kernel*$(uname -r) > "/etc/dnf/protected.d/kernel-$(uname -r).conf"
