I will be starting University soon and will need a tablet to go along side my powerful rig. the course i will be going into well require me to use CPU heavy programs. my Desktop that i am currently using can handle this just fine. so i need a tablet to take notes and construct powerpoints. nothing to hardcore. i want a tablet that has a detachable keyboard as well as a clear high res display (1080p). i have looked around and seen that the new Surface 2 by microsoft has all these features. though it does run on Windows 8 RTS which would not really work for what i will be doing in uni. it also comes with that touch sensor keyboard which doest feel right for touch typing. is there any other tablet out there that has a good screen and a detachable chiclet keyboard? my price range is under $1000. any help would be much appreciated.
There's the sony vaio tap 11.
Personally I wouldn't grab a tablet. I've tested Surfaces, Surface Pros, HP Elite Tablet and even some Android Tablets and productivity isn't very pleasurable on w8 tablets. The attachable keyboards can't be used in your lap, most desktop apps aren't optimized for the form factor and there are hardly any 'tablet' apps. Buying an ultrabook and small tablet is simply superior. I have to go to school in september and my plan is a 11" MBA or comparable ultrabook and a Nexus 7.
