The Nextcloud Project - Dumping Google Drive

Hello fellow Level1Tech Members. I’m embarking on my quest to bring my data back into full control; primarily with my files. I’ve been using Google Drive for quite a while and would like to move away from cloud services such as Google and Dropbox for two examples. One of the solutions I’ve researched and heard about is Nextcloud.
I’ve tried to implement Nextcloud a couple of different times while I was using TrueNAS Core with outside access from my network at home, but kept getting way too many redirect errors; in addition to a lack of recent guides to follow. So at the moment I’ve hung the project up for now until I can find a more viable solution. I have recently upgraded to TrueNAS Scale 22.12 as I am planning on expanding out a bit on some fronts.
Bit more of detail on what my current goals are…3 users, my Grandfather, mother and I. I’ll be the one using most of the storage since I do photography in my free time, ebay listings, etc. I do intend on using the office suites available in Nextcloud to replace Google Docs; next part would be the ability to have access to NextCloud outside my private network. I know a self-hosted VPN would be the most secure for that task, but I often don’t like having to connect to a VPN just for one file. I do own a domain name and would like to use Cloudflare’s DDNS specifically for that. The other small objective is occasionally sharing a couple of files with family members from time to time.
I’m debating on whether to use the Nextcloud from the official repository or using the TrueCharts variant of NextCloud. I am open for other suggestions as well. I’ll definitely be grateful for any useful guide that would definitely help
