Now that the new ddr3 16gn module is now being manufactured by Intelligentmemory.com, will motherboard manufactures be updating their BIOS to accommodate them, knowing that DDR4 is in the future prospect of memories?
I know that the Gigabyte F2A85XN-WiFi and F2A88XN-WiFi can use them because I spoke to Gigabyte and Intelligentmemory.com, knowing that both motherboard have a max memory of 64GB.
The thing is, servers have had 16GB sticks for a while, intelligentmemory just found a way to produce them without a registered buffer, DDR3 is approaching end of life so more motherboards might support it or they may not. It all depends on how long it takes to transition over to DDR4
Not likely. Intel screwed something up in the addressing on haswell, it can only address 32gb. I dont know if it has been fixed in the upcoming refresh. Ironically, it was fixed on avoton so the Asrock avoton board we reviewed will work just fine with 64gb total on 4 sticks of ram. But nothing on the market today in socket 1150.
Yes I realized this was so that 16GB had been around for server board. I began digging around because I wanted to max out the F2A88XN-WiFi but realized only unbuffered and unregistered ram can be used on this board.
I'm still somewhat baffled by the fact that a few of these mini-ITX boards that claim to support 64GB of RAM. I've only ever seen 16 GB sticks, so I'm not sure how two of those winds up being 64 GB...
The avoton board supports 64gb. Haswell/Ivy Bridge can't support 64gb. We asked if the "NEW" New stuff that isnt out yet will support 64gb. The answer is unclear. With intel that usually means no, unless an OEM figures out a clever hack because intel can't be bothered with such things that interfere with their ever-increasing market segmentation.
