Gotta say I have nothing to do with this side of technology, but this is somehow fascinating
Didn’t know that timer was even a thing…

Looks a lot like a defrost clock, boilers are pretty neat but not a lot of them used for heating here in cali

Here in PA it is not uncommon to go into a old feed store or general store and find either an old potbelly stove or an old kerosene heater.

we have a wood burner like this at moms house that exists soley because we can burn wood scraps from the trees around our house that shed branches and that can be cut up. at least, we did that for a time. doesn’t get any cheaper than “free heating”

the same thing that attracts me to Linux, which is basically is set it and forget it

Sure, as long as you never update it.

open source technology is enduring

True, but for most users backwards compatibility (preserving old discontinued applications without any programming skill required) is the type of endurance that matters most.

I’m not saying that open source is bad.

If you want a smart home open source is way better, because it can work without Internet, and backwards compatibility is not required (you’re not running apps on a thermostat), and updates are not required if it’s not connected to the Internet (no security patches required).
