Or that everything in a terminal would be super simple.
Seeing how people love chatbots for some reason itās plausible to use a simple NLP model to translate NL prompts to CLI commands
Why is it a horrible woe of Linux that it doesnāt run some specific software only available for Windows? Why isnāt that a horrible woe of Mac OS instead?
Is Linux Torvalds outside your house, threatening violence if you donāt stop using Windows?
No. People donāt want to use the command line.
I am shocked no one brought up the joys of learning Linux, only to find that after a promotion he must now do everything in a custom BSD because the bank does not allow Windows or Linux. That is always fun.
As a long time Linux user, I hate the Windows CLI. I have figured out how to turn my Windows computer at work into a more Linux-like experience with Git Bash, Windows Terminal (which f*cking sucks btw), GVim, and Windows 11ās SSH feature. Honestly, I kinda love Windows 11. Idk why everyone hates it so much.
Now if only I can get it to have the performance of a Linux box. Today, it was running so hot and slow that I would legit see keys pop up anywhere between 3-60 seconds after I typed them - and this isnāt the first time itās decided to be like that on me at work.
Second biggest problem with linux is hardware in my opinion. Have to sync my phone and use my scanner in a windows VM and wifi can be had work if you use a random dongle.
Biggest problem though is that a system with uptime >2 years is a system you cannot find anymore especially if itās a raspberry pi with your DNS and chrony on it. Only reason I shifted to x86 was for the containers.
I agree. I am studying IT right now so I feel fairly comfortable with the command line. I also feel like that if you understand that, youāll still have easy time with GUI as well unless itās made to be too dumb. I can safely say though, that most of the people I know could do well with Linux, as all they really do is watch movies via VLC or interact with the browser.
Thatās because itās a Windows 10 SSH feature.
Whether here or there linux has many branches and subs, they are far from perfect and one distro that suits me is not and cannot be suitable for you or the next guy or gal.
Any distro you see is stock of that branch and is customizeable by whoever installs it.
But you cant switch to linux if you adamently expect it to operate like windows.
You are just setting yourself up for dissapointment.
The thing is its you who chooses what you do, not anyone else.
Those who complain about the time it takes to transfer data?
Incremental backup and restoration!
Do you have scheduled tasks programmed into your system?
No Osās arent perfect at all, but you work with what you have or find something better that suits your needs because it does no good to complain about it.
So went to trying Bazzite for the last couple weeks. Everything had been going very smoothly outside of some odd issues of getting GoG working. Some of my prior woes were actually resolved. My 3070 was just working out the box, though, I will say that Pop OS had almost no issues as well. And then I updated the OS and after a reboot got a kernel panic error
Right!
People get so hung up over tiny unimportant details (me included).
Average computer job:
- Browser (whatever, really, normal people do not care what āthe internet buttonā looks like)
- VLC
- Steam
- Something that is close enough to office 2008 not to cause more than usual pc-interaction-confusion
All the rest is fluff that we computer literate people pretend the average people care about when average people will happily spend whole days driving from shop to shop because each one of their groceries is 5% off thereā¦
I have been exclusively testing steam games on Linux a few months now. This is nobara, fedora 40, whatever. The witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 so far give worse performance then windows, Iāll live, itās 20 fps less in town. What is annoying me in this Linux is some geo locations process of Mozilla that I cannot kill. Along with some wallet thing of kde that keeps popping up when I plug in my phone for internet.
Other then that, even OBS runs better in linux then on Windows. Oh one more thing. During installation I said no swap file, but 8 Gb of zram(Please tell me what that is.) is used for swap. Why if I said no?
some recent memories:
systemd>grub
endevour-kate,dolphin>kubuntu-kate,dolphin
linux vulcan drivers>drivers on windows
terminal>endevour welcome app
welcome app + discover = better overall experience
lxde,xface - bloat = old lw design
You said no to a dedicated swap partition. Zram is kind of like a temp file that can behave as swap. Linux will say that it is available as swap, but if the regular file needs that space then it will be used for persistent storage.
Maybe this is just a me thing since I tend to use distros that are not rolling but my biggest gripe has got to be the lag from when something comes out to when it will be usable for me on Linux.
New graphics card just came outā¦ Oh iād may have to distro hop to be able to use that.
New LTS version of a distro just came outā¦ I bet its gonna be pretty terrible for the first month or so cough Ubuntu.
It just seems like trying to be an earlier adopter for stuff on Linux is just generally pretty punishing. Idk that has just been my experience.
I heard a random youtuber talking about nvidia having better linux drivers than AMD, which I find laughable. Anyone else think this?
I canāt speak for laughable and it can be that I am lucky, but cyberpunk on linux does not crash like it does on windows. What is doing my head in is OBS with less dropped frames, but I have screen tearing that is not on the game. This OBS issue I donāt have on windows.
