The horrible woes of Linux

Are we talking “got two audio-interfaces and a DAC” or “got a 48-channel A/D converter for my semi-analog workflow”?

Ugh, sound issues after installing Linux? I’m totally lost too! I’ve set up Linux on so many desktops and laptops, the last time my sound went haywire was probably 5 years ago. Back then, it was my SoundBlaster Live PCI card (the non-E version :man_facepalming:) still clinging to life in my HTPC. It worked, but barely…

Oh, and I’m rocking some seriously oddball USB DACs – pro-grade stuff with physical knobs, buttons :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:, and even “Real” Stage mic hoked up!
Full disclosure: I got them for high-quality headphone output. You can get pro sound for a fraction of the price.
And Wi-Fi support has been rock solid lately. No complaints there either!"

On my dell XPS laptop is the main issue the speakers sound terrible and headphones sound like the wrong driver is in use. I actually have a decent experience on my desktop with my goxlr mini using goxlr utility

I have got HDR working on my desktop with the Nvidia flag in /etc/environment but do have random issues with the desktop freezing on login, only fix being a hard reset

Hey @Timoral, sounds like your XPS audio card might be rocking :metal: the wrong profile! Right-click that sound icon on KDE taskbar, then head into “Configure AUDIO Devices.” See if tweaking those Port and Profile settings gets things back on track. :headphones:

Happy to hear your GoXlr is working – I know those devs went through literal hell getting that ported! :raised_hands:

The microsoft plans to migrate windows to a hosted os like chrome os, I can see the slow drip of removal and the road to subscriptions…

Lol, let them lie down on a chopping block? Didn’t work for Google, and a few before them, won’t work for them. Honestly, I couldn’t care less :metal:

Currently its affecting the precious military (soldiers, bases, installation, VIPs etc.) being traceable due to ad based data selling. Maybe begining on this front it raises and shifts the awareness and need for privacy which was often handwaved, especially in the US.

Its still a mystery to me how the ad-industry balooned so much. I cannot fathom that targeted advertisments are so effective or affects revenue so much for big corpos. IMO the effectiness is way overstated to give a reason for these enormous data broker and ad pushing “industries” to continue.

Absolutely, privacy is crucial, and FOSS is a game-changer in reducing dependencies and enhancing security. It’s refreshing to have more control over our data and technology.

The advertising business might end up eating its own tail if people become more aware of these issues. After all, people don’t want to be remotely controlled. Privacy concerns could lead to significant shifts in how we interact with technology and data. FOSS for the win! :fist:

Pi-hole cares and when set up stops data leaking out into the wild to these scumbag tech companies.
