The Great Game of the Year Debate

Well we are nearing that time of year, most titles that are going to be released this year are out. Time to pick the game of the year. Naturally this will be restricted to PC games, meaning anything you can play on a PC that came out in 2014.

My vote goes toward Dark Souls II with The Walking Dead Season 2 in a close second. Dark Souls II had really great game play and a subtle but interesting story. The Walking Dead was just an amazing experience with dem feels throughout the entire game.

Meh. TBH I wasn't too impressed with any of the titles released this year. AAA or indie. It was relatively mediocre.

I vote Asscreed Unity. Just to be ironic.

Only one so far that I find myself really wanting to play is This War of Ours. It is just plain fun. Not only that, but it has a great message and reminds us of something that is often forgotten by Americans. War affects civilians.

Don't have a shiniest of all the turds? lol

Shadow of mordor. Need to kill me some moar orcs.

Admittedly I haven't played many releases this year, mainly I've played the witcher, battlefield 4, and mass effect

Wasteland 2 and Shadowrun Dragonfall dc are the only games this year ive played and liked. I still need to try Divinity: Original Sin since I would guess that would also be a contender for me.

Could never get into Shadow of Morrdor.. Hear it runs like butter though.

Yeah I'll admit it's not a game for everyone. It isn't very story heavy.

My 7950 can run it on high at a silky smooth 60 fps. Probably one of the best PC ports.

I'd vote for the Last of Us Remastered, but I don't think you can have the same game 2 years in a row even if you do stick "Remastered" after the title.

I haven't got it, but I've enjoyed watching the Mighty Jingles and Scott Manley play Elite Dangerous. That's officially coming out on December 16th.

I would say GTA 5 but it's already Game of the Year 2013! Honestly not a single game was rememberable that came out this year. In all honestly I think South Park: Stick of Truth, was very playable and enjoyable. Not much games get converted over as good as this. I mean I would love to say geekstone, I mean heartstone or mario kart 8 or bayonetta 2 but they're just same old rehash crap. I'd say 2014 is one of the most conservative and boring years for gaming the last 5 years.

I've been playing tons of 2013 titles this year so I'm not really up-to-date right now, but from what I remember there weren't all that many amazing PC releases this year. If I had to choose from PC or multiplatform releases it would be Transistor and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. But the true games of the year were released on the WiiU, no doubt about that. Bayonetta 2 and Sm4sh just hit it out of the park for me personally and I really need to buy a WiiU very soon.

No. I don't believe in rewarding mediocrity. It just enforces it.

Honestly the only games I thought were appealing this years was Dark Souls, Shadowrun and Grand Theft Auto 5 but considering how GTA 5 is coming for 2015 on PC i'd put money on Shadowrun being game of the Year.

The polygon count in the rocks and t he lack of tesselation in the ground really irked me. Not to mention that you just run around killing shit for the most part. The lack of story is a killer. That wouldn't be a problem if the game were more self aware/didn't take itself seriously at all. I like the wat Borderlands approached it. The whole game is like a joke and they are obviously just giving you amusing reason to keep killing shit.

I played some GTA on the 360 and from what I played it was really good. I'm looking forward to the PC release.

AAA games have given us very little this year. I dont even have a 2014 release game in my steam library.

Guess I'm the only one who thought GTA V was mediocre.

I played it all the way through and was left disappointed.

The story felt boring and too much about Micheal. There was not enough for Trevor and Franklin to contribute.

Strange. A much more popular game called "This War of Mine" came out recently that sounds very similar  ;P
